I learned to touch type on Mavis Beacon. Sadly the CD-ROM from Windows 95 is not compatible with Windows XP, so when I upgraded my computer I had to buy it again. Guess what-I've now got a laptop with windows Vista-and it's not compatible either!I will not buy it again! The program really works-I was up to 30wpm in a couple of weeks, and it's easy to do a quick refresher at the PC when you have a few minutes. Watch out though-if you are planning to change systems/computers, the CD will become useless!

In my opinion, the most effective and easy to use product of its type on the market. Totally erases your browsing history, totally obliterates files that actually remain on your computer long after they've been supposedly deleted from your Recycle Bin. Can even totally - and securely - wipe your entire system if need be. Nothing is recoverable. Maintains your privacy AND keeps your computer free of clutter and running at optimum levels. You will have to send proof of eligibility (you will find the details in the box) to Adobe in order to get a serial number. I got mine 10 days later although it's not supposed to take more than a week according to Adobe's notes... The software works very well so far and the price is very low compared to the non-student edition.

Okay, i'm up to date with modern technology and a bit behind when it comes with virus protection, lets say not as experienced as some and probably one of the youngest to comment on a product. I currently am using Norton nternet Security and thought about buying this product. But one word of advice you should consider. At the start the sign up to "Norton" is free. For a whole year it will do its job successfully, it does benefit from a simple user interface and isn't doesn't regularly demand attention. Its good for that i sing its praise. But after one year of the product, exactly 365 days. The product basically turns off. Its still monitors the basics but no longer recieves updates, so the risk is the same as before. I have always had a soft spot for Publisher and still use the 2003 version for my teaching and for producing teaching handouts. I haven't bought the 2007 version but have looked at it and it all seems very similar to what has gone before. For the money, it looks very expensive these days and very poor when compared to products from Serif and the like. Also, remember the latest version of Word makes a good stab at being a half decent DTP application, at least for simple projects. Buying both really is bordering on duplication. I think I would need a lot or persuading to part with £140 for something which is really a tarted up version of 2003. Most of the time I use a Mac and an application called Swift Publisher, which ... I use computers all the time but have no idea how or why they work. I installed this into my laptop and it was as easy as pie. I get a daily message to say it has updated and it alerts me when an 'attack' has been successfully aborted, which is quite satisfying. As an added bonus I now have a nice little bulldog icon on my desktop. I suppose that ultimately this product would appear to do exactly what it says on the box and I feel much safer for it :)
