Well, after a few weeks with Linguaphone's All-Talk CD course which I got kinda free with the Daily Mail and after a few rather fab hols in Lanzarote I got the Spanish bug. I was learnin' rather quick. Sadly I bought this software. It's really kinda poo. This is because I'm a clever kinda chap yet it's a bit of a bugger to work out. Las instruciones are kinda flippin' non-existente. Starts off in the v. deep end. Was glad I'd had some experiencia apart from this. Will stick to talkin' to the locals 'cause they're basically better at Spanish than this CD is. K I'm a bit poo at me own Inglese but I'm absolutemente you guys WILL UNDERSTAND. I think this is a really good way to learn! In one evening I was totally addicted! It is easy, and you will learn words that easily will come to use if you ever go to an urdu speaking country. the program is based apon tourism more than grammatical strucktures. It is higly recommendable if you want to have fun while you learn.

This cd-rom doesn't have a lot of longevity in that it can't teach you all that much. The things that it DOES teach are limited in their usefulness and seem quite unconnected to their use in the context of the language. It basically just teaches you 'words' - not how the words fit together. So, if you want to know the Punjabi word for 'Head' or 'Blue' - this could be what you're looking for. If you want to know how to put those words together to say 'My head's gone blue' - you're out of luck. Each section of the CD-ROM (Body Parts, Colours etc) has a quiz at the end so that you can test yourself on what you've learnt. These quizzes are TOO EASY and move at a painfully slow pace. There is no better way? Now, that is a misleading statement. Ten Thumbs is certainly a fun way to learn touch typing. Unfortunately, it is not as International as Runtime Revolution website implies. I bought TenThumbs at version 3 believing their claim that support for a Danish keyboard was in the works. Yes, Ten Thumbs now supports six different language keyboards BUT the lessons are in the language of the keyboard. For me, this made Ten Thumbs unusable, because, I type in English on a Danish Keyboard. Presumably, these days there are other people in a similar situation. When I contacted Runtime Revolution about the problem I received a reply from a person named Heather confirming I was entitled to a refund. Several months later I am still ... Read More:

I found this a most disappointing introduction to Italian. It's basically a dictionary on cd-rom - fine for helping you identify and pronounce individual words and phrases, but useless at helping you construct easy sentences. A good dictionary with phonetics would do the job far more cheaply and would be a lot more portable.

I enjoyed using this software and was amazed at how quickly I picked and remembered the Danish words and expressions. Additional software is not required, as the CD runs straight out of the package. As an effective introduction to Danish, I highly recommended this product. There is, of course, room for improvement, which could be made to future editions. There are no days of the week, or months of the year. The number section teaches numbers 1 to 20, but no higher. Shame really, as your score on the quiz is read to you, and can be anything up to 50.
