In addition to the horror stories I've heard and read about Vista, I'd also read that the Home Basic edition is basically like XP and therefore not worth getting. Though Vista may have been dis-functional in 2007, the 2008 edition of Home Basic with Service Pack 1 is anything but XP! Installation was painless and despite my motherboard manufacturer not offering Vista compatible drivers, Windows Update made easy work of finding current VGA, Network & Audio drivers to run my Motherboard under XP. I've had one program that will not function correctly but it's a specialist piece of Broadcast Software for which a Vista version is available so all in all, no major problems, catastrophe's etc etc. I think the Vista horror stories mainly relate ... i hate to admit it being a geek, but in my time using computers, xp is a much better piece of kit. xp may be slower (only slightly) but isnt as demanding on your hardware. xp may not be as flashy or pretty, but at least it gets the job done, (my vista experience had one of my webpages crashing and then as a safety precaution shut down my computer, xp takes a while to fix it and then just gets on with it)

sure vista will have some bugs, so thats another reason to get xp well at least untill they release a service pack for it.

for gaming the direct x 10 feature of vista is a good thing, but on avergae you'll need twice the specs to run a game then if you did it on xp. and seen as though only a few games to my knowledge only ... Read More:

I bought the OEM disc to use on my Intel Mac also. The disc worked perfectly with no problems. I simply registered the product online with none of the problems the previous poster mentioned. I think there may be a problem if you attempt a second installation using a program like Parallels of VM Fusion as you are technically trying to register the product for a second time and this causes alarm bells to ring at Microsoft. But if you simply want to install on Bootcamp, this product is highly recommended.

Windows Home Server is finally ready with the arrival of PowerPack 1.

The power pack 1 has fixed the data corruption issue also now it is possible to back up Vista both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I have been using it for about 6 months now all of our music, films and photos are now in one place and our computers are regularly backed up full.

Tested restoring one of the laptops and it was really easy.

The great thing about WHS is that you don't have to be a computer expert to be able to use all of it's features.

Yes, you can have most of this functionality for free but the computer backup and the ease of use makes it stand ahead of its competitors.

It runs on the cheapest Dell box ... Read More:

I got Ultimate Upgrade as an offer of £30 when buying a laptop from Amazon.

Let's be clear I would not have paid the full price or anywhere near the full price, so my review is based on a purchase price of £30 only.

I have replaced my Desktop XP operating system with Vista Ultimate as the laptop came with Vista Premium, good enough for me.

The upgrade from XP on the desktop to Ultimate was pretty simple, although you do have to read the instructions as they come up and follow the advice about what drivers are needed to be downloaded (not run) before upgrading, for me this was Linksys Network Adapter and a Canon printer driver, simple enough.

It is an upgrade as I did not have to clean re-install and all my ... Read More:

I have personally found 'Tiger' to be the most efficient OS X to date, and therefore a real favourite for a couple of years when I was working in a graphics department. Their is no doubt Leopard is a beautiful upgrade, containing a stated "300+ upgrades", however, it is by no means essential if you Mac is work work purposes. The extra features we've found are not for the productive side of things, but more for consolidating files, making things visually look better, and a few notable new programs.

In short, Leopard would no doubt be a great update for the Media orientated users, but if you're all work and no play, it's actually not that essential. "Snow Leopard" has already been announced for next year anyway, and was stated would improve performance ... Read More:

Where to begin... basically don't. The only thing more flakey was the XP64 I bought a few weeks earlier. With only the OS loaded I got blue screens galore. Updates didn't and Windows live this that and the other fell over but then were impossible to remove. I expected it to be better than XP64 which was a nightmare but frankly the improvement was marginal. I am sure you get the picture by now. If you want a 64 bit OS then this is not it.
