Paying near 70 quid for an old Windows version that in turns needs half a gigabyte of ram and excels with a one Ghz or faster CPU just to create a media centre is a bit too much for my budget.

I selected the OSD Media Centre from Neuros Technology. It's got a built-in DSP optimized for MPEG4 video recording, supports both PAL and NTSC, acts as a networked media player, personal video recorder, and is based on Linux so it's totally expandable. In fact, a new Youtube video browser has been released for it, and new software is being developed all the time.

After my experiences with WinXP, I'd hate to see more people cornered into the closed-source, proprietary world of Windows, when a truly open solution like the OSD can ... Read More:

Finally there is one legal way to get MS Windows for more or less normal price. If I've already bought a Mac and want to install Windows, there is no way to get OEM version (which is still more expensive than Mac OS X retail version), and I have to pay £200+ for Windows XP or more than £350 for Windows Vista Ultimate. So finally now I have opportunity to get "genuine" 5 years old version of Windows XP for the price I can afford to pay. Thank you Microsoft! (It would be better to offer Vista as well, but I doubt that I'd buy it, given how many troubles people have with it).

Very poor. Insists on planning strange routes and gives you very limited control over the direction it makes you go. No support at all for uploading waypoints to GPS units without a pocket PC, so useless for anyone with a Garmin Etrex or similar. No print button on the map planning screen, so you can't make a paper copy of your route if you want one. Clumsy navigation around maps, with no pan button! You have to click at the side of the screen to pan, which means if the waypoint you want is at the edge of the map you have to pan it first, even though you can see the location you want to mark!

Only works with a PDA, so no good installing this on your laptop and using that to navigate - it won't do it.

Very poorly thought out ... Read More:
