Both of our sons love their Brio trains and track and so we thought we would buy a second battery train so the youngest could enjoy one. The other train (BRIO 33761 Wooden Railway System: Smart Track Engine) worked very well, was well designed and durable. This train, however, has a flaw - the battery cover on the first train had a locating pin to stop the cover sliding forward and make it secure when it was screwed down into place. This one does not and as a result my wife cannot fit it at all and I have spent half an hour getting it to work. I take this type of equipment apart and put it back together again for a living and I can't do with this model what comes naturally with the earlier one! Bad show Brio!

I've seen so many toys broken before Christmas is even finished, so I wanted to get my grandson something that would last. This toy is superb quality, very strong, brightly coloured and with the addition of some more vehicles, provided two little boys with hours of fun on the first day. I did hesitate before spending so much, but I'm so glad I did now.

My 3 year old (a great Thomas Fan) was given a Flair James as a present. He gives all his wooden engines a hard life! But, I must say the Flair toy has faired much much worst than all his older Brio engines (I understand that Brio no longer make Thomas toys), the paint finish has really flaked and worn away, the toy also appears to be much more flimsily held together -not screwed like the Brio engines and will need to be kept an eye on. Also from a purely 'Dad' perspective, the printing quality of the graphics on the toy are really poor. All in all, it should not be selling for the same price as the Brio version it replaced. Be warned!

I bought this train along with the railway set and some other engines for my son's third birthday. He is an obsessed Thomas fan and I was hoping to invest in a toy that would give him pleasure for a long time to come. One year on, whilst he still plays with Gordon and the other engines and gets alot of fun from all his trains, they are all now looking rather worse for wear. The paint chips off very easily and Gordon in particular has large areas where the paint has peeled off completely. The train does not glide smoothly over the track and when he puts a few engines together to make a long train, it derails far too easily. All in all I wish I had stuck with his road and rail thomas train set and trains, or gone for the far superior Brio wooden ... Read More:

We got this as an afterthought, because it was relatively cheap, but our 3 year old is enchanted with it and spends ages running the trains past it again and again.

I agree with the previous reviewer. These trains are not as well made or as durable as the ones which were made by Brio. I too am on the lookout for the few Thomas characters made by Brio we don't have.
