This was one of my favourite games growing up. Now as a mum, my 6 and 8 year have discovered this game and really love it too. It is very simple to pick up and have a quick game and it really brings out the competitive edge between the adults and children. Children have just as much chance as winning and you don't have to do the usual 'pretend to lose' as an adult to maintain peace relations in the house. It is educational as children have a hand of cards and have to match shapes or numbers to the game pile, they also have a 'decision' to make when they get one of the magic whot cards in choosing which shape to change to next (the theory is they choose a shape they have most cards with), they also have to pick up cards if they are unable ... Just bought this for my daughter, Lucy, who is 5. We've had a great time with it - the games last just the right amount of time, so we didn't have half the players drifting off to do something else halfway through (if you've ever played Mousetrap or Cluedo with young children, you'll know what I mean). Mindful of the dire warnings posted by previous reviewers, I have warned my children that they should NEVER pass a REAL ticking bomb to someone else as part of a comical word game. I think they understood.

Scattergories is a really good game. Basically, you roll a dice which gives you a letter from the alphabet. Each player then individually works through a category card which gives them a list of categories, and they have to think of something for each category which begins with the letter. This is then repeated with a different letter but the same categories. Then, in round 3, there is an open ended category, and each player has to write down as many things beginning with the rolled letter as they can think of. In each round, you only score points if no other players have got the answer.
