..I've found this book invaluable on several trips to Cantabria. It's just so thorough - My husband is from Santander and knows the area inside out, but still finds this book includes places to visit that he's never been to. Dane Facaros and Michael Pauls have a very humorous writing style that is occasionally wryly critical, but usually with good reason! In all our excursions from Santander we've found the restaurant and hotel listings incredibly reliable. If you value good, intelligent writing as well as practical information, this is the guide for you.

Travel : Travel by Cargo Ship (Cadogan Guides)
I am currently planning to visit some 20 different countries - one after the other. Many will require evidence of my onward or return travel at the point of my arrival. The problem with that is that my visit to each country is to study and photograph the scuba diving and research the history of various outstanding shipwrecks. How long each visit will take is, therefore, not known.

One idea was to travel by ship - thus removing all excess baggage problems at a stroke. I honestly believed I could find a ship leaving the UK and heading for my first destination in Europe and then, when the time came, I would find another ship heading in my direction and so forth. Then I came across this book and quickly realised it is not as easy as I ... Read More:

A guide to working and living in Italy is a useful book for many people so this title would be a welcome addition to the many similar guides already on the market - if only it contained some correct information. Reading through the chapters, I was struck by how often the author seems to make up "facts" without bothering to check. Just to take two examples from one of the more general chapters, that on the Italian language
- The author claims that Italian isn't an official language in any other country in the world. The population in neighbouring Switzerland will be surprised to hear it, as Italian definitely IS an official language of the country.
- Even stranger is the author's claim that the North Italian dialects are Celtic!! Celtic, ... Read More:

Travel : Bay of Naples and Southern Italy (Cadogan Guides)
The Cadagon guides to Italy have always served me well, and when I set out on my travels clutching a copy of BAY OF NAPLES AND SOUTHERN ITALY in my sticky paw, I thought I was in good hands. I shall give the book its due by saying that the Bay of Naples information was OK. But alas, whoever researched Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia did it very sketchily indeed. There was far too little information on show-stoppers such as the Sila, Matera, Lecce, Ostuni and Trani, and some of the information was downright wrong. My companion, a lecturer from the University of Catania, couldn't believe how hopeless the information was.
I do hope that Cadogan will revise the guide. The toe and heel of Italy deserve a lot more attention. And the Riace Bronzes in ... Read More:

Travel : Paris and Disneyland Resort Paris (Take the Kids)
If it is Disneyland info you want then this book may be for you, but if you don't plan to go to Disneyland then I would not reccomend this book.
I recently bought this book for a week end in Paris with my husband and two children ( aged 5 and 7). As we had limited time we were keen to use a guide book for suggestions and directions for appropriate things to see and do with children.
I found the suggestions to be unspecific and directions poor.
It doesn't offer anymore than any other guide book and common sense as a parent. It was a waste of money and the time we spent following the suggestions and directions given in the book we would have been much better off just getting lost !

Spending a month in the Yucatan would never have been so fascinating if it weren't for using this very comprehensive book. I'm sure we got to places that we never would have found without it. More importantly was Nick Rider really captured the atmosphere of the place - the affection he feels for Yucatan really shows in his excellent writing. I loved the place and will definitely go again to discover new places using this terrific guide.

As someone who loves to travel the world, I never realised how much England had to offer. I bought this book on a whim to see how to kill time in Bath on a business trip. I never realised it would make me visit Cambridge, Worcester, Stratford and York as well. Until I found this book, I would look forward to a trip to Europe once ever 6-8 weeks, now I know I can have 1 or 2 trips to exotic, historic jewels in England between and wonder why I went to Europe in the first place. Thank you Mr. Macdonald for opening my eyes to my own heritage.
