This is a brilliant boxed set, i managed to get this for under £45 which is incredible given the books individually are priced at £13 each !! The attention to detail in these books are second to none - buy it now before the price goes back up !!

Lots of ideas on how to take trains and get to places. Have started to use it for travels, and am now taking much more civilised trips..... with the added bonus that you have no airport hassles, travel greener, take as much whisky and toothpaste as you like, and see the countryside! Read it and be inspired. It can work out just as cheap as air travel!

I have used this map for two trips around NZ, and will use it again for my third trip later this year as it is still in great condition considering the daily folding and unfolding that you inevitably do as you travel the length and breadth of this fantastic country. As it is small and lightweight it is ideal just to tuck in your suitcase or backpack no need to carry a big bulky map around. A must for any NZ traveller, at a reasonable price.

Needing to clear some space on my bookshelves I have decided to reacquaint myself with Bill Bryson's travel books before Bookcrossing them. This one was written in 1990, first published in 1992 and the edition on my bookshelf in 1998. I enjoyed reading this travelogue of his tour of some of the major cities of Europe, many of those mentioned which I have visited myself during the last forty years. Of those that I have not I think that Sofia in particular may well have changed beyond recognition, Eastern Europe having undergone the most changes in the last eighteen years. Whilst one might not always agree with Bryson's viewpoint it is none the less an amusing read, though one must also accept that in some aspects it can seem very dated. ... Read More:

This guide book is the best I've read. The advice was invaluable and I trusted the recommendations, especially when it came to accommodation. It very quickly became my travelling companion and I followed its advice as much as I could. Don't leave home without it!

Lonely Planet - great for maps and local transport but thats about all! As any experienced traveller will tell you, the minute any restaurant, cafe or hotel gets it name in LP then its prices will double and the standards will half! I also agree with some of the other comments here, why do they try so hard to be cool and why do they tell us what we should and shouldnt do? An OK book but now and then leave it in your backpack and be adventurous.

The simple concept of this journey was to walk from the hook of Holland to Istanbul following the two main arteries of Europe: the Rhine and the Danube. The book was written from pre-war notebooks so some of the language is slightly unfamiliar at first. Once you get over your modern cynicism the gentle pace and detailed descriptions will pull you through the slowly changing landscape of Europe. You will feel the cold of blizzards through dense woodlands and then warm up to drink schnapps in a Bavarian Inn. Despite the poetic prose and flawless rhythm the real strength of this book is the sheer scale and range of knowledge shown by PLF.
