This guide starts with a very interesting history of the city. The information is given in a very detailed yet accesible fashion throughout the book. It is presented by dividing the city up into seven areas and it gives a complete overview of the history and sights of the areas. It recommends some superb restaurants and hotels (though we had already booked when we bought the guide so i cannot comment on the hotels it recommends). It also gives suggested walks around the city and day trips out of the city complete with mini guides to such places as Haarlem and Utrecht. Loved this book - it contains neat sections of the top 10 of just about everything to do in Madrid. Includes places to eat, drink, sights to see, places to visit etc etc. We certainly saw more of the city in 5 days than we would ever have done if we hadn't bought the book and it was quite satisfying to get back to the hotel and tick off all the places we'd been! The reviews were very brief but very accurate so we felt quite confident exploring on our own.

We own about 15 of the DK Eyewitness Travel guides, and have dogeared the pages over several trips. They are amazingly useful. But this one is not their best effort. Hawaii is a very diverse place, and to try and "hit the highlights" in a travel guide is a mistake. This book is right at 200 pages, but almost 80 are about Honolulu, Wakiki and Oahu, leaving only 120 pages for all of the other islands. Even the pieces about Oahu (with little info about the west coast/Makaha and just a mattering on the North Shore) and Honolulu (with a few measly paragraphs on Pearl Harbor) is scant.
