Having recently traveled around North India, taking both this guide book and also the Rough guide to India, I found the rough guide far more useful. Whilst the DK guide has glossy pages and lots of colour pictures of the attractions, it is severely lacking in any real details. For example, if you are looking for information of things like buses or trains to travel round, where is good to eat, or with whom would be good to book up an activity and how much it should cost then this book is almost entirely useless. The only reason I would recommend this book to someone is if they were on a package tour, and were not responsible for paying for or arranging anything themselves. Stick to the less colourful rough guide or lonely planet books, which ... Read More:

As with all Eyewitness Guides, the multitude of glossy colour photographs are a real selling point of this guide. It's very helpful for pre-departure planning. The maps are good and integrate well with the text. There are also close up double page spreads focussing on the main sights, highlighting the best bits and mentioning the rest too.

The guide focusses on the sights, and achieves a good balance between showing highlights and 'best ofs' to help a time-poor traveller choose their itinary, while still showing the less famous attractions the city has to offer.

There is also information on places to eat and sleep, general cultural information, and practial information, plus a phrasebook. I found this section informative ... Read More:

If you like small pictures of your favourite scenes of Vegas, the book may just about satisfy your interest. To that end it will probably be ideal for people who have just returned from the holiday of a lifetime in the city of Sin. Although in fairness, a few carefully chosen postcards at 10 cents a throw will do a better job.
But don't rely on this book for depth, commentary or assistance. The reason is simple. How can you have a top 10 list of casinos, restaurants, sights, etc , when there are so many. Pick a book that lists them all and gives more extensive research.

Vietnam and Angkor Wat (DK Eyewitness Travel Guides)
The DK guides are all the same, they show you what to see, not just write about it. The plans and pictures are a joy to use. This one include Cambdia and Ankor. There are loads of exciting interesting detailed things to see and know about these countries and the way the DK guides lay out the information makes them very helpful and a pleasure to read

If you believe a picture tells a thousand words, you'll love this guide to Provence and the Côte d'Azur.

It's filled with photos, but also maps of areas, towns and museums.
For the Fondation Maeght in St Paul de Vence, for example, you'll get a very nice layout of the museum in relief 3-D format, with a sampling of artwork from George Braque, Chagall, etc.

The guide lets you stroll through the streets of Avignon, see the backdrop cliffs behind Monaco and the location of its famous spots, plunge underwater in the islands of Hyères.

The introductory Portrait of Provence gives a taste of local culture, architecture, history.

Due to the thickness of glossy pages, the book weights 1lb... which is ... Read More:
