I don't know what I expected but certainly nothing this detailed or so well-written. It was fun to read, and completely educational. I don't have children of my own but as a travel writer I need to know what women travelers and mothers can expect. I wouldn't hesitate a single second to offer this book as a gift to parents, or to recommend it without reservation to anyone considering travel with young children. Not only is it practical, it's fun. I learned plenty about attitudes towards children around the world. Well done!

Found the book a very handy reference for the journey - interesting and well written, with a good deal of practical detail, great value recommendations. Excellent coverage of both cities and more remote areas. The author's own fascination with the country is very contagious. Highly recommended.

For my first trip to Cuba, this book was pretty accurate, up to date and informative in terms of places to visit, tourist attractions, what to do and where to go. It gives you useful advice on how much you are expected to tip, what to expect of the country and how to get around and where to go which was very useful. The only negative aspect of this book was probably the design layout. It covers a vast majority of aspects of Cuba which can be a lot to get through, the layout is quite difficult to read and its mostly black and white columns of writing do not make it appealing. As it is written from first hand experience it is definitely a very useful book for first time traveller's however a lot of the entertainment they had suggested for Havana, no one had heard ... This map is an absolute must for anyone going to Marrakech. I recently went and not only would have been totally lost without it, but would have missed out on some of the treasures Marrakech has to offer. Street names are a rarity but this map makes up for the lack of them by being absolutely perfect - even through the maze of the souqs! Without it i may have had to resort to pay a few dirham to be guided by locals who either take you on a roundabout route to where you want to be, normally via their cousins tannery, or send you in completely the wrong direction and laugh at you as you go. Buy it before you leave or suffer the consequences!

At first sight, a useful book despite a dictionary at the back that contains some glaring omissions of basic words such as 'from' and 'please', as well as other useful words such as 'sting'. Its culinary reader is threadbare too, with plenty of omissions - annoying when tried to decipher a menu.

But the real flaw is in the phonetic spellings of the Portuguese words. The author uses 'ng' to indicate the nasal vowels that characterise Brazilian Portuguese, but this only works about half the time. The rest of the time you're just mispronouncing the word.

The biggest omission of all, though, is as follows. In Brazilian Portuguese, when a 't' is followed by an 'e' or an 'i', this means the 't' is pronounced like the 'j' in jam or 'ch' in church. ... Read More:

cannot praise this book enough. I rented a car and went to Jerusalem, The Galilee, The Golan, Tel Aviv and the Dead Sea. And this book made the trip what is was. From the secret view of the Dome of the Rock from the old Islamic college on the Via Delarosa to the unreal restaurant in the Golan ("Witch's Calderon" i think - in Nimrod).

cannot recommend highly enough - 6 stars

As an introduction to Turkey, I feel that this is the best all-round guide available. Not too heavy, visually inspiring and with honest and sensible text. Independant travellers may find Lonely Planet more useful as it is more comprehensive. This guide contains accurate and useful info on all the essential sites to be seen in Turkey.

I bought this Lonely Planet guide as I was moving to Portugal for a year. I have used previous guides by Lonely Planet but this was has been my favourite: the authors are fantastic: their humour, insider tips and just general description of a place are about 99% correct.

This guide makes Portugal seem much bigger than most people believe it to be. The authors research many places outside of the "usual suspects" and provide rarely-heard of information.

The only sections of this guide that are, one expects to be off, such as transport prices. And even though they can be substantially off, I cannot hold this against the writers, seeing that Lisbon metro and carris changed their prices twice in a year. Also, I cannot give this guide a 5* rating as ... Read More:
