We have recently been to Krakow for a long weekend and are so pleased we bought this book before we went. The book really is fantastic! The book has maps, resturant and bar reviews, overviews of museums, where to shop, suggested walking tours, where to catch buses from history etc!!!

We definatley made the most out of our trip by taking this book! We were able to find our way around easily because of the detailed maps! We also ate at a couple of the resturants reviewed in the book - which were excellent! We were able to save money on visiting the salt mines by taking the bus there ourselves rather than go on an organised tour.

I would definatley recommend this book to anybody who is thinking of/is going to Krakow! ... Read More:

It has been since December 2005, that I have visited this busy and buzzing city of Bangkok. I needed a nice and easy guide which would pinpoint all the main attractions of Bangkok and the Lonely Planet offers me all the answers I needed to make the best out of my journey in Bangkok. It is a handy guide to have.

It details all the hotels, restaurants, bars, museums and shops available in Bangkok. What more do you want? In addition, it offers advice on key matters, such as travellers cheques, culture, transport and banks. Make the best out of your journey in Bangkok by using this guide. What more do ... Read More:

This is an excellent little book. Don't be misled by its diminuitive size it is a 'Tardis' of information, words and phrases. Instantly usable by beginners and the more experienced foreigner to Arabic alike. Very good value for money.

The Lonely Planet guide to Japan is a detailed and accesible guide to the country, providing a brief historical and cultural overview of Japanese affairs and then exploring sites of interest. The book incorporates many useful features including maps, key phrases and a comprehensive index. The book is mainly black and white but does incorporate a few colour snap shots.
At over 850 pages, the book is packed full of useful information but is also bulky and awkward to fit in a small bag meaning that most days, I left it at the hotel and relied on other books. Maps of smaller cities are helpful but I did find the Tokyo maps difficult to follow and poorly labelled. Descriptions of sites tend to be factual and informative but do not always convey ... At first sight, a useful book despite a dictionary at the back that contains some glaring omissions of basic words such as 'from' and 'please', as well as other useful words such as 'sting'. Its culinary reader is threadbare too, with plenty of omissions - annoying when tried to decipher a menu.

But the real flaw is in the phonetic spellings of the Portuguese words. The author uses 'ng' to indicate the nasal vowels that characterise Brazilian Portuguese, but this only works about half the time. The rest of the time you're just mispronouncing the word.

The biggest omission of all, though, is as follows. In Brazilian Portuguese, when a 't' is followed by an 'e' or an 'i', this means the 't' is pronounced like the 'j' in jam or 'ch' ... Read More:

Whenever I go traveling I always take a Lonely Planet with me, they are indispensable and Peru was no exception. While the book served me well and ensured my travels where well informed and trouble free.

But!, I feel the book is not up to lonely planets usual standard, the whole book was pitched at a too negative tone, it had me thinking I would be raped/mugged/attacked every 5 mins, to the contrary I felt entirely safe for all the time I was there. Many of the prices where incorrect despite the books recent publish date, I also found the descriptions of many of the hotels to be wrong, it seemed as if they had been randomly shuffled in editing.

cannot praise this book enough. I rented a car and went to Jerusalem, The Galilee, The Golan, Tel Aviv and the Dead Sea. And this book made the trip what is was. From the secret view of the Dome of the Rock from the old Islamic college on the Via Delarosa to the unreal restaurant in the Golan ("Witch's Calderon" i think - in Nimrod).

cannot recommend highly enough - 6 stars

I have visited quite a few Greek islands and found this book extremely useful. I recently went to the Cyclades and the detail was excellent, however if you're going to Syros/Myknonos area I'd also pack Nobble Hospital of the Aegean by Paul Judges which offers some fascinating insights.
