I took this book along with others to Tuscany - my first visit. We were staying in the middle of Chiantishire and found the book invaluable and for our limited time there, accurate. There are detailed descriptions of Florence and Siena but also some helpful guidance on the Tuscany villages. Useful because the villages take time to get to and we needed to prioritise. Very accurate about the restaurants and trattorias we used.

In short, this book is nothing more than a tiny tourist brochure. It is full of pictures and has very little written information. By looking at an NZ tourist website you will undoubtedly learn more.

What, no review yet for this gem, this Koh i Noor that shines in the so often bland and overhyped landscape of travel guides? I'm a guidebook writer myself and know scribes who had the unfortunate task of putting together a competing tome to Rough Guide's Corsica, and were plumb overwhelmed by the task. This book has all the insight, detail, and enthusiasm to carry any intelligent visitor through a rewarding visit to Corsica. And culture culture culture. All exceptionally well written, with no resort-led PR fluff.

Directions guides are slim and pocketable (literally - I kept mine in the back pocket of my jeans as I was walking around - they are that small), and therefore ideal for browsing on the move. The information is basic and to the point. The book spends as much time on cafes, restaurants and bars as it does on the sights. If you are spending more than a long weekend in Barcelona it is a good idea to combine this with another guide, such as the more detailed and pictorial DK guide. The Directions guide is short on pictures and doesn't cover all of the minor sites. The `Best of Barcelona' (I'm paraphrasing) section at the beginning is a particularly good feature (and the one area of the book rich in colour and pictures). ... Read More:
