This is quite simply the best guide to Budapest you can get, though as always it is in need of updating. I've just come back from a short break in Budapest and thus book was my constant companion. I found it helpful and easy to follow. The descriptions of the sights and attractions are well-written and informative. There was nothing to criticise in the content, except that Budapest is a more expensive place than it was when this edition was published, with most galleries that are described as free now charging a substantial entrance price.

This is could be a very useful guide BUT we found both the accommodation infos and the maps EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE. Hostels are likely to either no longer exist or to differ strongly from the descriptions provided. If the guide says that a hostel is "not so nice", read that as a clear "stay away, this place is a dump". You can spare yourself some horrid nights that way. Just ask other people where they stayed and write it down in a notebook. We found the city maps simply abysmal. Entire blocks and streets were missing from the map of Osorno, which led to an hour long trek across town, whereas the map showed that our accommodation was just two blocks away from the Plaza da Armas. Being an undeniable fan of "The Rough Guide" Series, the guide to Sweden packs in the ususal mix of what to do, where to stay and all the other facts and commentary that we have all grown to love. Having spent 6 weeks travelling in central and southern Sweden, The Rough Guide did not fail to disappoint! Being a country that most people will have little to no real knowledge of, the guide is an essential companion. I was pleased by the level of detail that the guide contained, not just on the big three cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo. used this book on my trip to Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar recently. the information is now surprisingly somewhat out of date. not the books fault. apparently Tanzania has changed a lot since the last edition of this book. for example. all prices have gone up by at least 30%, very often more and are still rising. Some budget listed hotels/restaurants are now really expensive. So be prepared to spend that bit more. one of the reasons for the price hike is due to current world oil prices, the country depends a lot on oil, for everything. some local people say that prices have gone up 100% over the last 2 years. I went to kendwa on Zanzibar. from the books description it sounded like an oasis of few huts and solitude. well things have changed, the beach is ... Read More:
