VHS : The Mission [1986]
This is a true story and it is a very sad one in the history of the west and of the church.
Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons, Liam Neeson and many more take us through the history of slavers in South America. Irons, who plays a Spanish Jesuit Priest, goes into the wilderness to build a mission, to convert the Indians. DeNiro plays a slaver who eventually joins Irons' mission and serves the native peoples.

The main question in this film is that of ownership, and the right to make slaves. The mission begins in Spanish territory that is sold to the Portuguese. The Portuguese do not want to accept that the natives are humans - but at best trained monkeys - and that their Christianity does not protect them from becoming slaves. The ... Read More:

When I first saw this film I was not sure what to expect. Was it going to be a biased portrayal? Although some incidents were merged, I'm glad to say that I thought the film was good, with a powerful script, well directed and a superb performance by Alan Rickman as De Valera and Liam Neeson in the title role.

The direction of the film was well done, especially the scenes at the Four Courts in Dublin.

A recommended film, which I found to be very fair in the portrayal of incidents committed in the period of British rule and the subsequent civil war.

The low budget film adaptation of Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale" actually is coined by slight differences in contrast to the novel.Of course it also tells the story of Offred and her life in the dictatorial system of Gilead. For me, as someone who eventually read the book before, the film was not that interesting anymore, but definitely worth seeing, because it helped me to get a clear image of the whole scenery. So everybody enjoy the film(and, if possible:read the novel)....

VHS : Haunted [1995]
This is a superb ghost story with Aidan Quinn perfectly cast
in the lead role. His potential romance with Kate Beckinsale
is believable and they have a real chemistry together.
The setting is typically english with a charm not found in
most movies of this genre, but it also displays a creepiness
and a sense of dread that you don't find in many of the crappy
slasher movies that hollywood churn out.

J.Gielgud as a doctor is well cast as is Anthony Andrews who
has a strange relationship with Beckinsale that is explained
fully later on in the film. Also the movie has a terrific twist
at the end and is a chilling ghost story that uses the scenery
well and takes place in a beautiful mansion. This ... Read More:

VHS : Desperately Seeking Susan [1985]
Though the story line has been done so many times it's a great film. I'd seen this several times as a teenager and still think of it the same way. This movie really has less to do with Madonna and more to do with Rosanna Arquette.

It's hard to imagine anybody not coming across this film but if you haven't it starts out with Roseanna Arquette who plays Roberta Glass, a bored New Jersey housewife, who constantly follows the on-going relationship of Jim and Susan. One day, Roberta decides that she would really like to meet Susan, so she places an add in the paper, telling Susan to meet Roberta at Battery Park in New York City. Susan (played by Madonna) shows up, but is arrested because of cab fair. Roberta is being harassed by some lunatic. After a bump ... Read More:

VHS : Practical Magic [1999]
The story line is loosely based on a book by Alice Hoffman. It is more of the screen play by Robin Swicord who also did the screen play for "Matilda" (1996).

Sisters Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) are brought up by their maiden aunts after their parents died. They learn of magic and its pluses and minuses by observing their aunts from a distance. They also have to overcome (if possible) the family curse that the gentlemen in their lives are distending to meat an early demise. One highlight of the movie is when we find that the other women in the village really did not distain the Owens's; is just that they have not been invited to help.

The story deviates from the book in the since that they do not even try ... Read More:
