VHS : The Hill [1965]
This is a film that works on many levels. Psychologists and philosopher's could talk about those while others might just like the sturdy plot and witty script. It rates as one of the best films I've seen. It is an oddity surely that I have got to this age and can never remember having seen it referred to anywhere in a film poll or otherwise. How can this be? It's brilliant and it's sad. Which character in the film are you?

VHS : The Taming Of The Shrew [1967]
I'm studying this play and bought this Franco Zafirrelli / Elizabeth Burton version as it was dirt cheap on amazon. I found it more enjoyable than the BBC version (as did my wife), even though we both preferred John Cleese's to Richard Burton's Petruchio. It gains over the BBC version by not having that awkward out of place hymn at the end (and after Shakespeare note-worthily eschewed religious arguments in Kate's final speech)! Also, the dialogue is here more clearly and comprehensibly spoken; it is just a shame it misses out the majority of it! There are a lot of visual gags to retain the interest of those who do not follow the language used. Unfortunately it also misses some of the plot points for the minor characters along the way, although ... Read More:

VHS : The Krays Box Set - The Krays / Flesh And Blood - The Story Of The Krays [1990]
This film was such a disappointment for me, I really did expect a Great British gangster film that would show London's notorious criminals and how ruthless they were in their prime. Instead I found myself watching two clueless twins who are as intimidating as a pair of goldfish roaming London doing rather little. Their mother of the story is wrongly portrayed as an eccentric feminist and as for the music, well that belongs in a B movie horror. If you are considering buying this film please don't, it's really not worth it I assure you you will be as disappointed as me and be even more annoyed at the potentinal this film had.

as a fan of the book, quite possibly the best ever written i decided after watching the dismal dirk bogard version to try this wow it was amazing never has a book come to life with such drama and passion. it would be churlish to single out any performance the whole cast were superb it says on the box that if you want an intelligent version of the story then watch this, and for once i wholeheartedly agree,a more moving film i've yet to come across you will not be disappointed

VHS : A Midsummer Night's Dream [1996]
I thought this production of A Midsummer Night's Dream was outstanding. Alex Jennings is searingly sinister as Oberon and Lindsay Duncan makes a formidable Titania. Adrian Noble directs with great visual imagination and flair. Desmond Barrit is superb as Bottom. I thought the device of introducing The Boy (and having The Boy introduce us to the play) worked especially well. The whole production is colourful, rich, powerful and strange - just as it should be. Highly recommended.

Any criticisms? Just one. They should have cleaned up the print and remastered it for the DVD transfer.
