VHS : Who Will Love My Children [1983]
This is a film about a mother who discovers she has inoperable cancer and has to find good homes for all her many children. Her husband, though well-meaning, is a hopeless drunkard totally unable to cope or to help much. They live in a house far from town, somewhere in "Darkest America", I think Iowa or Michigan (not sure about that). The story takes one up and down, through all sorts of trauma and eventually comes up with as happy an ending as possible under the trying circumstances. The last ten minutes keep you guessing as it seems one child (quite normal save for mild epilepsy) looks like being abandoned alone in a state orphanage...this is a 5-star tearjerker and a half! Great film though and not schmaltzy at all, really, bearing in mind ... Read More:

VHS : The Cincinnati Kid [1965]
This film is about a young poker player (Steve McQueen), in the 1960s, who has the reputation of being one of the best stud poker players around. But, in order to prove himself, The Cincinnati Kid has to face the ultimate battle in a showdown against the ultimate player.

Although the concepts of poker in the film are still useful today, the reason I only gave it four stars is because it is very dated and old-fashioned. However, it is an interesting film with some great poker action and is definitely worth buying.

VHS : The Tenth Kingdom
The 10th Kingdom is television making at its very best. The mini-series was very poorly publicised when it was first shown - both on American and British television - but it can now be enjoyed again and again with the advent of DVD.

The series blends fantasy and reality and also pokes fun at age old fairy tales, legends and myths. At the beginning of the series, we are introduced to Virginia, a waitress who lives in New York with her Father, who is the Janitor in their apartment building. She tells us that nothing exciting ever happens in her life.

However, all of this is about to change as Prince Wendall, the ruler of the fourth Kingdom, who has been turned into a dog by his stepmother, the evil Queen (superbly played ... Read More:

VHS : Carnal Knowledge [1971]
How long have i been searching for a film that perfectly demonstrates the complexity and the wonder of the male psyche? I am of the opinion that with this film my search came to an end. Mike nichols, best known for the brilliant film "the graduate" performs his duty as director with the same craft and spendour in "Carnal Knowledge". A young Jack Nicholson wonderfully plays a character that we all find ourselves becoming at one point or another, he reminds us all of the raw animalism that exists in all men. This is surely a performance that would be a standout for most actors, but because of his undeniable brilliance, this is one of his lesser known roles. The surpise package in the film comes in Art Garfunkel, a man known for his musical skills, ... Read More:
