VHS : Nuts In May [1976]
I had never heard of this film, but I first watched it a couple of years ago and it blew me away. This is now firmly establised as one of my favourite films of all time. Whilst I know that many people will not understand the film, I now actually judge people on whether they like this film or not. I have changed my views on my own friends through watching this superb film. People who do not like this film are simpleton's in my view, and example of this is my friend Wikey. He does not like this film, and therefore I like him less as I know his brain does not have enough capacity to understand the subtle humour this film provides.

It is best to watch this film when you are slightly tipsy, and it always gets me howling with laughter. ... Read More:

VHS : School Ties [1992]
Shallow as it may sound, I only bought this film because of an article I'd read in Attitude magazine about the hottest moments in Hollywood history. After reading about this film - which features Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell and Brendan Fraser in a naked brawl in the communal showers of a boarding school in the 1950s - my mind was made up. Having said that, I did enjoy the film as a whole. Sadly, the scene in question is rather short, but sweet nonetheless. What is particularly interesting here is to see these actors, as Attitude puts it, 'A-list before they were A-list' (the film is from 1992, when the lead actors were still young and strapping). The three put in mravellous performances, a joy to watch. Unfortunately the script doesn't quite match ... Read More:

VHS : Tess Of The D'Urbervilles [1998]
This video had been knocking around my local charity shop for a while, and I'd been vaguely debating whether or not to buy it. It was only £2 but I was just so tired of hammy, thespy, unsubtle adaptations of beloved books, which reduce sub-plots and characters to tokens and use completely rewritten, overly 21st century dialogue. I love the novel Tess of the D'Urbervilles, and I didn't want to see it ruined.

Just five minutes in, as soon as Justine Waddell appeared on screen, I knew this adaptation was going to do the book justice. Justine Waddell is exactly how I had pictured Tess and at the beginning exuded the simple but dignified country girl sweetness of Tess (also, she is absolutely beautiful in a natural way, just like Tess. The camera ... Read More:

Although an old film, it'a an absoloute must. Laughed all the way through a genuine Julie Walters masterpiece. If you're a fan of hers buy it you won't regret it. Bit saucy so not for the faint hearted but not in a vulgar way. It just shows that Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus.
