The 1986 Formula 1 season was one of the best ever. This is a well presented video, with Clive James' wit and love of the sport evident throughout. There is good coverage of the qualifying and race sessions, with enough of the politics in between to keep everyone interested, and without becoming bogged down with too much detail.

If you want to see a season where there was actually racing and overtaking, this is the one to go for. The season goes down to the last race (in Australia), with three drivers each having a chance at the coveted Drivers Championship.

of the 13 season reviews i own this was the first one i bought and is probably the best. some brilliant drivers like prost senna mansell piquet and other world class performers like alesi berger patrese and the debut of one michael schumacher. the detail of the qualifying and races is brilliant while its interesting to see how times have changed. ferrari mclaren benetton and williams competed for wins whilst the likes of jordan tyrrell dallara and even minardi had their moments.

id buy simply because of the quality of racing, the excellent footage and coverage. plus to look back at days when more than 2 teams and 4 drivers could win races.

VHS : Formula 1 Grand Prix Review 1990
The 1990 Formula 1 season was the last time Senna and Prost would have such an intense battle for a championship. In '91 Prost was nowhere near. In '93 Senna was nowhere near.

That first corner accident at Suzuka is one of the defining moments in all of motorsport history, and it wasn't just the title challengers providing the sparks. Mansell's brilliant move on Berger in Mexico is an example, as was Piquet's battle with Mansell in Australia.

1990 was also the season that the pathetic Life team tried to enter. However, the video fails to mention the fact that the team could only manage a 7 minute lap around Imola (that's over 5 and a half minutes off the pace!) in prequalifying, and also the fact that they had a 350bhp ... Read More:

VHS : A Star Named Ayrton Senna
I am surprised that so many people rate this video so highly!? I was very disappointed when I saw it for the first time, because I thought it would be far more interesting and I didn't expect so much of the interviews to be in Brazilian!
There are not that many F1 highlights on it and the commentary is fairly bland in my opinion.
It is OK if you love Senna, but for a modern day f1 fan like myself there is nothing gripping about it!

5.Formula 1 Grand Prix Review 1992 - Well Done Nigel ! starring: Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Gerhard Berger, Jean Alesi, Riccardo Patrese

I found it enjoyable to watch, mainly due to being British. But I was a little disappointed that it didn't include more and mainly overlooked the other Brit that was driving well that year, Martin Brundle.

Nigel Mansell deserved his title, even if it was an easy one with the dominant Williams. He had lost the champtionship three other times and deserved some luck.

VHS : Mansell v Senna - The Complete Story Of The 1991 FIA Formula One World Championship
The 1991 season was a classic - no season since has matched it for drama and excitement in my view. Two of the most exciting drivers F1 has ever seen duelling it out for the crown. These cars have big fat slick tyres and no traction control to spoil the party. Sparks fly and they look incredibly dramatic on the limit. After 4 straight wins by Senna the season looked dead but Mansell's bravery and speed in taking him on is totally inspiring in some of the races. Check out his duel with Senna down the Straight in Spain or his move on Prost in the tunnel at Monaco. Eat your heart out Jenson 'Hello Magazine' Button!!

VHS : The History Of Formula One
With clips from some 50 races from 1950 to 1990 this is the closest to a Formula One 'Greatest Hits'. Well edited but let down by Roebuck's commentary. Interspersed with some interviews and a sad reminder of those who have departed since this was made in 1990 - Fangio, Senna, Hunt, Ken Tyrrell, Rob Walker. With F1 returning to the BBC it would be timely to get this out on DVD, or better still update it.

This video has excellent footage of Ayrton both in and out of the car, and gives a good insight into his life and career. It is let down, however, by the American narrator who is terrible and tries to turn the narrative into poetry. Additionally, it was made before Imola '94 when Ayrton died, so misses the final chapter of his life. For ardent Senna fans this will add nicely to your collection, and show a couple of new aspects of his life. For Senna virgins this video is a fascinating insight into a genius at the top of his sport.
