VHS : The Snapper [1993]
Soon after a wild night at the pub, twenty-year-old Sharon Curley (Tina Kellegher) finds herself expecting a little "snapper" by a man she loathes. Her refusal to name the father sets in motion a family drama involving her three brothers, two sisters, and her parents, along with her employers and all her friends. Kellegher, playing the role as a coarse, earthy, yet remarkably sensible young woman (with the exception of her excessive drinking during her pregnancy) soon discovers who her friends really are, as some people tease and torment her, some make remarks to her siblings, some force her father to take direct action in her defense, and all spread gossip.

Des Curley (Colm Meaney), Sharon's father, shows the whole world in his ... Read More:

This movie which is as complex as it is disturbing on many levels involves a couple. Who have lost there son and with the help of the cybernetic corporation the Father works for are given David. He is an advanced robot programmed to mimic a human and learn to in effect become one. The earth which has been ravaged by global warming leaves the remaining Human population living on smaller continents. Humanity have built thousands of Machines who become more human like to take the work load from them. David is the most advanced and he through time want's to become a human ( which isn't a new idea, Look at Data in TNG ). However some parts of humanity despise the Sims and the most disturbing part for me. Was to witness the ' Circus of the Flesh' where ... Read More:

VHS : The Village [2004]
Well, I have to admit, that to start with, the film was quite scary; because the acting was very good and you felt their fear. However, I have to say, by the end I was not at all scared. I'll try not to spoil the surprises, but one of them at least was so obvious it seemed unlikely to actually be true ... I kept waiting for someone to say 'But ... ' and add a new twist. The second surprise, (to do with the state of the world around them) did come as a shock though, I'll give you that.

And the monsters themselves? To be honest, at the end, when Ivy has to face one alone - I can't say any more than that without giving things away - me and my friend nearly fell out of our chairs laughing. When there's a scary moment - girl running through woods, ... Read More:

VHS : Troy
I'm sick of people constantly talking about how "Troy" should have been called "Achilles". This is ridiculous, first off the whole point of the Iliad was to glorify Achilles, so if you have a problem with the story focusing on Achilles you don't know squat. In my opinion as a teenager I thought the movie was excellent, I know it didn't stick to the Iliad but besides that it was a great production. Brad Pitt did an excellent job in portraying Achilles he was a stern, fierce warrior who gloried in being the best fighter on Earth. I know the History buffs are dissapointed about the films innaccuracy to the Iliad but who cares this truely was a great film and deserves applaud. From the hatred between Achilles and Agamemmnon to the insane fight scenes this was with ... Read More:

VHS : Cold Mountain [2004]
An excellent film. Unfortunately it was deprived of Academy Awards it would otherwise have deserved by the fact that it came out in the same award year as The Return of the King (which was possibly the best film in the history of cinema). Jude Law takes a break from his penchant for vapid non-acting and turns in an astonishing performance as Inman. Nicole Kidman is very good, but is thoroughly trumped by a Renee Zellweger who I feel can breath excellence into the most dull of roles (I could not have countenanced Bridget Jones in any other form; fortunately Cold Mountain's Ruby Thewes is a gorgeous, meaty character). The movie was by no means over-long, but I would recommend the novel for a fuller flavour of the story. More films like this would make expensive trips ... Read More:

VHS : Resident Evil / Dog Soldiers / 28 Days Later [2001]
A truly excellent collection featuring two little British beauties (dogs soldiers, 28 days later) and an American one (resident evil). 28 days later is a post-apocalyptic type film depicting a virus-riddled England, with a handful of survivors fighting off 'the infected'; in this way it is similar to resident evil. However, 28 days... has the advantage in that it is directed by Danny Boyle, the man who brought us Trainspotting. It is a scary vision of the future but also has elements of a love story and some wonderful scenes such as raiding a deserted supermarket, something most people would love to do.
Dog soldiers is also very good; 6 soldiers on a training exercise are stranded in a forest, surrounded by werewolves. It is not only gory and shocking but funny too, ... Read More:
