VHS : Carry On Follow That Camel

everyone knows that phil silvers of sgt.bilko fame got the role as sid james was too ill to do this 1967 movie, the producer thought that a big name could fill the void,it couldnt, plus they feed silvers ego by letting him perform some of his own material and staring straight down the camera one time too often,as if he is trying to bond with the audience. However in saying that carry on camel is still a good movie featuring kenny williams, angie ouglas, bernie bresslaw, peter butterworth, joan sims, and jim dale and this film deals with the french foreign legion from the training to the moment of battle, filmed in a beach in england, brighton i think, the film still looks as if it is filmed abroad, the film is witty in what it does but some leading members ... this film isn't exactly what i would call a real classic. sure, it has all the usual actors but it doen't any humourous moments, like some of the other films in the series. The ending is just plain embarissing. it made me cringe.
watch this if you a fan.
My son adores this film, i haven't discovered why yet but i've been watching him very closely and i think that some of the scenes are a little to saturating for him to handle.

VHS : Carry On Abroad [1972]
This is definately my favourite of all of the Carry On Films. It is laughter from the moment it starts.
Kenneth Williams as Stuart Farquhar is fantastic especially when Peter Butterworth as the Spanish Hotel owner says 'Stupid What? when he first introduces his name.
Joan Sims and Sid James as husband and wife are hysterical and the scene where Sid smashes through the patio window when he thinks it hasnt got any glass in it, is superb........Joan Sims laughter really makes that scene and its so contageous.
The whole supporting cast are brilliant and there really is not just one star of this film they are all great. (Lovely Bernard Breslaw as Brother Bernard and the beautiful Carol Hawkins as the girl he takes a shine to....so many others ... Read More:

is this a sequel to the mush lauded carry on doctor,on some levels it is but in terms of characterisation it isnt, fair enough the same cast return more or less but the story takes the drama from the national health service to the private sector and lords that up instead, what we also get here is missionary work where medics were sent abroad to help poorer countries and medic jim dale is asked to do that after becoming disgraced in england, once abroad he meets a bit of a loose cannon in sid james who gives him the medicine to turn large ladies into slimline ones, clearly that would sell well today in this body mad world, but once jim dale returns and becomes a success there are others such as kenny williams and charles hawtrey along with sid james who never knew the real value of ... Unbeliveably good, the power of emotion expressed by Lavant is superb, along with his supporting Femmes, its a bone of contention whether this was filmed (not released) before or after hiv/aids came into the public eye, look for the scene on the Metro, so typically french. In short get Your mates round after a stressful week, put it on, you'll either melt in to each other, or row until the wee hours

VHS : Carry On Cowboy [1966]
Following the International success of the hilarious classic, Carry On Cleo (1964), Gerald Thomas and Peter Rogers decided another parody was what was need to keep the series vital and alive. Written by Talbot Rothwell, the team came up with another one of their very best entries in the series with Carry On Cowboy (1965).

There was always a loose structure to the plot in most Carry On films but with this one, its far more concentrated, with a surprisingly gritty, hard-edged realism behind the laughs. The action is set in the heart of Stodge City which lies in the heart of the Wild West where the notorious Rumpo Kid (Sid James) and his gang are striking fear into all the residents of the local community. Desperate to bring his deadly and violent reign to an end, Judge Burke (Kenneth Williams) hastily sends ... Read More:

Wow! If you love the historical carry ons but havent seen this little gem then get it now. Kenneth Williams is at his best in this one. Also the wonderful partnership of Sid James and Jim Dale makes the film a timeless classic full of energy. Out of all the historical ones, this one ranks as my favourate followed by Carry on Henry. Also, watch out for Charles Hawtrey, no matter what situation he finds himself in, he always manages to laugh. Carry on Chopping!!!
