VHS : The Krays Box Set - The Krays / Flesh And Blood - The Story Of The Krays [1990]
This film was such a disappointment for me, I really did expect a Great British gangster film that would show London's notorious criminals and how ruthless they were in their prime. Instead I found myself watching two clueless twins who are as intimidating as a pair of goldfish roaming London doing rather little. Their mother of the story is wrongly portrayed as an eccentric feminist and as for the music, well that belongs in a B movie horror. If you are considering buying this film please don't, it's really not worth it I assure you you will be as disappointed as me and be even more annoyed at the potentinal this film had.

VHS : White Hunter, Black Heart [1990]
This is loosely based on the making of The African Queen. Eastwood plays John Wilson (Huston) a cantankerous man who is more interested in big game hunting than shooting the film. In my view this is Clint Eastwoods greatest acting performance. He doesn't impersonate John Huston (maybe he couldn't) but he does capture something of Hustons distinctive drawl. To be clear on this if you want to watch Clint Eastwood being Clint Eastwood as in Dirty Harry, Good the bad and the Ugly etc (which I love as well) this may not be for you.
John Huston endearing trait of sticking up for the down trodden. In one example he picks a fight with the white Hotel owner for abusing a black waiter, in another he castigates a woman for being racist. This latter ... Read More:

VHS : The Saint [1997]
Let's start at the beginning, if you're expecting a Roger Moore/Ian Ogilvy portrayal of Simon Templar then you're going to be disappointed. If you want James Bond with a halo, you're going to be disappointed. But having said that the movie is not disappointing, but very good.

The film just couldn't be like the old TV series, the world has moved on and the old style cannot be replicated if it wants to appeal to a new audience. Kilmer presents a very different Saint, one that is refreshing and you get the sense that Leslie Charteris' original basis for his hero was drawn upon. Kilmer's international master criminal, master of most, but not all disguises is very entertaining, if somewhat innocent.

Elisabeth Shue provides ... Read More:
