VHS : A Knight's Tale [2001]
A Knight's Tale is the story of a peasant's son who is able to "change his stars" after becoming a knight's page. This entertaining film is set in Europe in the Middle Ages, and keeps our attention with good acting, humor, and without the help of super special effects. The dialog and soundtrack of mainly rock music takes us outside the usual costumed theme.

The "knight" (Heath Ledger) earns the love, respect, and loyalty of his peers and others with his bravery, sense of honor, and strength of character. Although the plot is simple, the interaction of the characters keeps your interest, and I came away with a better understanding of tilting contests and the sports or jousting. The opening scene gives you a promise of what to ... Read More:

VHS : The Duchess Of Duke Street - Series 1 - Part 5 [1976]
This video is well worth watching."Duchess" fans will not be disappointed. Bringing the first series to an end, each episode left me looking forward to the next time I could plan an hour to myself without the usual family distractions. Much of the action is away from the hotel, reflecting Louisa's success in achieving financial and social standing (up to a point!)The final episode could have signalled the end of the story - loose ends were tied up and there were no cliffhangers. However, there is a second series -hurray! Just one word of caution - although this video could be enjoyed independently of its predecessors, I would recommend you start from the beginning to fully appreciate the developing storylines.

VHS : Eye of the Needle [1981]
I return to this film at least once a year, which may be thought a bit sad, but in fact is a testament to its dramatic force. In WW2 London, Donald Sutherland, an Abwehr spy and ex-Kriegsmarine officer, trusted by both Canaris and Hitler, "The Needle" (from his method of disposing of the unwanted...), is uncovered and flees to Western Scotland. On a small island are living crippled ex-pilot Cristopher Cazenove lives, drunken and resentful, with his wife Kate Neligan and their small son. The Needle wants to rendezvous with a U-Boat, in order to transmit in person to Hitler vital information about the likely invasion point in 1944 France.

There are a few weak points in the plot: by 1943-44, the Red Army was already pushing the Wehrmacht aside ... Read More:
