VHS : Madeline [1999]
Anyone who has enjoyed the books will love this film, which brings Madeline's Paris to life and involves Madeline and her friends in a madcap adventure to save their school when closure threatens. Interest for the boys is provided by the next-door neighbour, Pepito, but on the whole this is a girl's film, and a very enjoyable one. It will teach your children to exclaim "voila" in a convincing French accent too!

VHS : Angels And Insects [1995]
An intelligent and unusual drama, based on A.S. Byatt's short story Eugenia Morpho. In mid 19th century England, a penniless naturalist who has lost his prized specimens from the Amazon in a shipwreck (I think the movie meant him to be a young Charles Darwin, though an incident where his field work possessions were lost in a shipwreck happened to his colleague Alfred Russell Wallace) gets a job cataloging specimens held by the Alabaster family in their country estate. He will eventually marry their daughter Eugenia (Patsy Kensit), despite the fierce opposition of her brother Edgar. Not long after having children with her, he will discover a terrible secret haunting the family. A cousin of the Alabasters, the bookish Matty (Kristin Scott Thomas) ... Read More:

VHS : The Railway Children [2000]
This a very charming movie set in the turn of 20th the Century.
I have seen both versions and in my view they are both very fine movies that the whole family can watch.
I have to agree with one of the reviews, the brief commentary at the beginning and the end of the movie
is in my view detrimental to the production. I really dont understand why the writers did that.
Other then then the commentary the movie is very fine.
The acting is wonderful, the settings and costumes are beautiful.
This movie is worth while adding to your DVD library.
Especially if you are looking for family movies

VHS : The Rules of Attraction [2003]
A vile film about vile people. Repugnant, useless vermin. A more chilling indictment of the vacuity of American youth it would be hard to find. The thought that these loathsome scum are going to grow up and run the country (they are all spoiled rich brats) should give any American citizen the shivering heaves.

As a film it is just clever-clever cinematic tricks used without any insight or imagination. The performances are uniformly uninspired, the direction laughably self-conscious. Serious money was spent on this crap. Don't waste any of yours.

a funny and charming film aimed at the younger generation but just as appealing for some if not most of the older community. a brilliant film based on a well written book, it is a must have dvd/ vhs, and it would be a shame to miss out. The life of fungus, a bogeyman from the land beneath the ground, criticising us and our ways just as we criticise theirs (if we believe in them). We are the 'topside', the land above ground, and there is some political satire and misquotes that will have the older generation cackling with glee.
dont miss out on this brilliant offer.

Great to make a movie about the privatisation of Britain.
But why does Mr Loach have to typecast so heavily.
You can criticise society but please bring in some "realistic" personalities
portraying "working class", some diversity would've been more believable.
It's an insult to the British working-class, in my view
