VHS : The General's Daughter [1999]
This film drags and the plot isn't very good. There are some good moments, but for the large part I thought this was very average.

VHS : Purple Rain [1984]
I suppose one of the main reasons for watching the film is to try to extend an understanding of Prince, of that brilliant and enigmatic character whose unique talents have shaped the most joyful music of our generation. Whilst the film hints at a semi-autobiographical content, this is not fully explored. The Kid (the main character) has to overcome family difficulties and the scepticism of his peers, using his experiences, to shape his music.
Prince ,typically, is generous in allowing others to share the spotlight. Both the Time and Apollonia perform . Yet it is Prince's films and his concert performances are energetic and captivating. Darling Nikki is challenging and sexy. Purple Rain is soulful and magnificent. These sequences alone show an artist ... Read More:

VHS : Purple Rain / Graffiti Bridge [1984]
'Graffiti Bridge' is Prince's third and final feature film.

Written, directed and starring the purple one the film done terrible at the box-office and made very little money at all.
'Graffiti Bridge' is quite well known for its awfulness, and if i'm being honest; criticising it is a well known hobbie for Prince fans. Still the movie isn't half as bad as what people say it is...trust me.

The story basically revolves around 'The Kid' (Prince) and his rivalry with 'Morris Day' ('The Time' frontman), each of them own a club on 'Seven Corners' (a cheaply made set on Paisley Park to the rest of us) and battle out to see whose music reigns supreme. Morris ain't happy with the 'spiritual noise' that Prince is making and wants his share of the club.

Very good story, hard at times to watch but has a great cast and of course you can never go wrong with Samuel L Jackson.

VHS : The Legend Of 1900 [1999]
This film started my love affair for Tim Roth. I know some posters have commented that the casting was poor, but I disagree. 1900 is a sensitive, naive soul and Tim Roth protrays this very well I believe. With Tim it is all in the eyes. 1900 would not have worked as a character had he been played by some gorgeous young hunk, what would be the point. As a character he is unwordly, shy and a talented genius musician, Tim Roth was perfect in the role.

The film can drag a little in places, but the music is beautiful and the sets rather lovely. In summary I would say it was a pleasing period piece, best suited for music lovers.

VHS : Hoodlum [1997]
I purchased this film purely on the strengh of tim roth and andy garcia and was pleasently surprised. Although sometimes lethargic the films keeps you interested with some good gun battles and a well worked script. But i still feel it lacks that extra something which makes a good gangster film truly great!
