VHS : Brother Bear [2003]
Brother Bear is a wonderful animation - it isn't violent and it has the right balance between comedy and drama. The storyline is engaging and the characters and some of the cameos in this film are hysterical. This is a film for all the family and it is a truly wonderful children's animation combined with Phil Collins' musicianship that brings the film to life. Highly enjoyable.

VHS : Spawn [1997]
So if you take one of the greatest comics created and make it into a feature film surely you will have one of the best adaptations right? definately wrong!!!
this unfortunately did not do justice to the comics and spawn series! as a major fan i heard mixed reviews but decided to buy it especially as it is cheaper now.
to be fair the acting in Spawn is good and they have got most of the characters likeness spot on! but the script was very badly written and the actors would have a hard time making anyone believe any of it!
I also believe if spawn had better CGI it would have been much more enjoyable. but most of the CGI made me think i was watching an epsiode of charmed.
i did enjoy the first half of the film and they are some parts ... Read More:

VHS : Lonesome Dove - Parts 1, 2 And 3 [1988]
One of the great Westerns, albeit this time on the small screen not the large, this is a movie about aging in a decent way. As much as the characters age, this is also a pivotal time for the genre of the Western itself, predicting the rise of the revisionist Westerns (Dances with Wolves, Unforgiven et al) at a time when no-one was interested in Westerns at all. As such, the message of growing old in the face of adversity while keeping values intact is striking and as relevant as ever.
So what makes it work? First, the epic scope of Larry McMurty's book which fits 6 hours of television so much better than it would have squeezed into a theatrical movie. It breathes, takes its time and introduces characters in what at first feels a long drawn out way, ... Read More:

VHS : Gardens Of Stone [1987]
Touching and subtle film about the entertwining fates of a group of soldiers and their families and friends, with a real human touch. Deftly handled subjective views reflecting the 60's personal values in the era of the Vietnam War.

Coppola doesn't let the film descend in to patriotic mush, but handles beautifully the characters as they form a family of the likeminded with different views. In many ways this was a trip down memory lane, reminding of many a young soldier I have met. This film is a fine tribute to the memory of their youthful eagerness and the meaning of life as it unfolds in the choices made for and by them.

VHS : Eight Men Out [1988]
Okay - I admit it. I bought this solely because Cusack was in it. I have compiled his back catalogue which has lead me to watching a number of films I would not have even considered normally - but luckily even his early Brat-Pack-esque offerings are surprisingly watchable (I'm choosing to gloss over 'One Crazy Summer' because Demi Moore's presence in many films of that genre is an unfortunate fact of life)and so I came to watch 'Eight Men Out'. This is not a film that will change your life, but it does do what any film should which is ENTERTAIN. It does so intelligently, basing the plot on an account of the 1919 Chicago White Sox scandal (baseballers were fixing matches long before cricket cottoned on to the idea, it seems)- but you do not have to care much about turn of the ... VHS : Face Of An Angel [1999]
Face of an Angel is a very touching film about Dorothy Dandridge played by Halle Berry. It tells the story of a beautiful woman who made some terrible decisions both in her career and her personal life. We are given some valuable insights into her life, her actress mother and 'special friend' who terrorised her childhood and teenage years, her absent father, her mentally diasabled daughter, failed marriages, affairs, and ultimately addiction.

Through the failed relationships and marriages there is one man who wants to protect her, her manger Earl Mills, played by Brent Spiner. Spiner's acting is superb and very touching, this film makes you wonder why we do not see more of this man in film. There are some particularly moving scenes in which Dorothy Dandridge hits rock ...
