VHS : The Young Americans [1993]
This little-known British film from first time director Danny Cannon is in my Top 10 favourite films and is probably my favourite UK film of all. Here's why:

First of all, Cannon's direction is incredibly slick considering this was his first feature film. It is a tragedy that his second project turned out to be the ill-fated blockbuster Judge Dredd, as after his work on this he deserved much more. However, he is now receiving recognition and respect due to his work on the TV series "CSI", so that is good news.

Secondly, the performances in The Young Americans are top notch. Keitel is on auto-pilot for most of the time, but this is a good thing as his central character - NYPD cop John Harris - is a cold straight-talking ... Read More:

VHS : The Hanging Gale [1995]
Irish history - superbly written, & portrayed. Acting & actors really reflecting the determination & commitment to family during tremendous persecution by the English landowners.A heart-rending tale that everyone should see, to understand what Irish tenants had to fight for - to exist. FANTASTIC story, reflecting conditions in the 1800s, sad & very moving.

3.Darklands [1997] starring: Craig Fairbrass, Jon Finch, Rowena King, Roger Nott, Dave Duffy

VHS : Darklands [1997]
Surprisingly diverting horror thriller, set in South Wales and prompting a terrific performance from Cliffhanger's Craig Fairbrass as a reporter lured into a mire of pagan rituals and the occult by svelte 'trainee journalist' Rowena King. Before he knows it, he's up to his elbows in pigs blood and human sacrifices. The pace builds relentlessly till his caught - literally - on a one-way train to hell and damnation. Black as coal!

VHS : The Secret Of Roan Inish [1996]
A wonder-ful film and one of the best performances from a child actor that I have seen. There is magic in this film but it is the magic of the land, the sea and all of the beings who co-exist in the world that John Sayles has created.
An altogether unforgettable film.

VHS : House Of America [1997]
'House of America' is the film version of a fantastic play by playwright Ed Thomas. It displays the slow deconstuction of an intimate Welsh Valleys family. The mother of the family, being a welsh mother and known as "mam", slowly falls apart due to her secret buried in the mine next to the house they have lived in for years. Sian Phillips potrays this woman, a wreck due to the modernisation of the land she has always known, brillianty, it is seriously one of the best performances she has ever given out. Matthew Rhys shines as the son who faces his patriarchial duties to hold his family together. BUY THIS! it is a fabulous and voyeristic view of the result of modern societies influence! It's fantastic - also read the play by Ed Thomas!
