VHS : The Borrowers - Series 2 [1992]
Having watched this both when it originally aired and more recently with my niece and nephews I think The Borrowers is still one of the best Children's adaptations ever made. It has adventure, excitment and romance and most people I know still rate this programme very highly. All I can say is if you haven't seen this, buy it. May be worth waiting until it comes out on DVD though.

I've read some very bad reviews of this film but personally I think It rules. It's interesting, funny, the acting is right on the money and I think very Tarantino in content. If, as well as his own directing you like all other Tarantino progects - the From dusk till dawn dawn series, Curdled, Four rooms you will love this.

What a joy it was to find this still available. I first read the book in the 70s, after finding it in Nairobi on my first visit. On hearing in the 80s that a TV adaptation was coming up I was wary, but it was beautifully done. It would be very easy for a film like this, seen through a child's eyes, to descend into gooey sentimentality, but it never does. The story is based on Elspeth Huxley's memoirs of her childhood in Kenya shortly before WW1, when her parents, with little money and a lot more hope than experience, set out to start a coffee farm. Every character, whether African or European, is perfectly cast. The scenery is beautiful, the storylines have everything from drama to pathos to humour (just check out poor Mrs Nimmo at her New Year's ... Read More:

If your'e looking to unwind and have a romantic bone in your body you'll love this film. There are no belly laughs, but I guarantee you will smile from begining to end. You may even blush as well.

Personally as a man, I dind't find Uma Thurman remotely drop-dead gorgeous which is assumed throughout. But I'm probably in the minority and her performance is immaculate. Everything else about the film is pretty much perfect. Light entertainment at its best.

VHS : Judgment Day: The John List Story
Robert Blake chillingly portrays John List, a man who murdered his entire family...wife. mother and three children. Beverly D'Angelo does an excellent job as John List's wife. List was on the run for almost 2 decades before being brought to justice via being seen on "America's Most Wanted". If anything...you must see this movie to see how Blake portrays List...especially now that he is charged with murdering his own wife! He looks so convincing as a religious, fanatical madman! Gave me shivers watching him! The movie is done in an interesting way...keeps you wanting to see more of it!

I don't mind them making a cash-in sequel to the witty and fun "MIB", but they could at least make it funny. MIB II is a complete flop. It is dull, tedious and totally unfunny. The clever wit and charisma of the first film are gone. Everyone is just going through the motions. You sit there hoping it will liven up when Tommy Lee Jones enters the film (it takes 40 minutes for him to arrive. It does lighten up a bit, but not enough to make the film worthwhile. Avoid.

You'll understand the title from watching the movie (I hope)!

At first I wasn't really geared up to watch this movie, my 10 year old daughter wanted to see it and, well, as dad's do, I didn't want to disappoint her, so we hired it.

...and I loved it!

It's a very clever movie with a strong cast (check out the end credits for the whole list), all of whom put in believable performances for their roles (even Denis Leary was top notch as the tough, morally bankrupt boss, which surprised me as I'd only seen him do stand-up previously).

The story revolves around 2 sets of action toys which become 'alive', with one set (the Commando Elite) being the ruthless, sworn enemy of the other (the Gorganites) the kind ... Read More:

This film is another example of the so called critics and professional film reviewers getting it so wrong by completely discrediting the merits of a truely impressive film. True, the film is darker, the humour is more subdued and harder to spot but that is what helps make this movie a great film. So it flopped at the cinema ... who cares!! So it got rubbished by the critics ... well if Ive learned anything; I leaned not to listen to critics. Always judge a movie yourself, dont listen to some pretentious critic who doesnt know his arse from his elbow.

In my opinion this is Carrey's best movie to date.
