VHS : Velvet Goldmine [1998]
I realy expected to enjoy this, I grew up with glam rock, usually enjoy Ewan Macgregor and think Todd Haynes is a good director. But I was seriously dissapointed.

The editing is terrible, depriving the film of any structure, there are no characters to engage with and thirty or so minutes in I hit the stop button after watching Ewan deliver the most feeble Iggy Pop impersonation I have ever seen.

Haynes wraps the whole thing into some concete with Oscar Wilde & spaceships which helps not one bit. An utterly pointless waste of talent and time.

VHS : The Woodlanders [1998]

Based on the famous novel by Thomas Hardy, this is a beautiful and lush production of 'The Woodlanders'.

This has so far been the only novel I have read by Hardy many years ago, and it left a lasting impression. Much about 'unrequited' love and strong passions; Grace Melbury gets the handsome , but unfaithful Doctor instead of her childhood sweetheart of lowly class due to her father's misplaced judgement at bettering his daughter.

Though some of the acting is a little 'wooden', this is a lovely adaptation, and though sad, I do recall the book being even more 'melancholic' - particularly towards the end.

Stars Rufus Sewell and Tony Haygarth.

VHS : The Full Monty [1997]
I'd heard the hype but only watched the film as my wife wanted to see it.There is a lot of bad language in it but that is the make up of the characters in the film. The film reflects the steel industry failing in the UK and the impact it has on the workers losing their jobs.Far from being depressing,as you may expect,it handles the issues with classic comedy and genuine humour. It runs for almost 90 mins, grabs your attention from the first minute and keeps you laughing all the way through with only the odd short-lived serious moment.Don't let the swearing put you off,i was quite happy to let my 16 year old daughter watch and enjoy the film.It is the humour that stays with you.Recommended.

VHS : Killer Net [1998]
Great acting. The film is 3 hours long but it really will not feel like it. It is brilliant. You really feel for the characters. This is full of suspense and twist. The film follows all the characters and pieces things together perfectly. It makes you look at internet games in a different way. The question is will they actually make this game ? I hope so in a way (just for fun obviously). It is a film that i found myself asking... If only !!! you will see what i mean when you watch it. This will not dissapoint.

Daylight Robbery 1 and 2 really should be released on DVD. These are incredibly funny documentaries. I have an ancient tape copy that I treasure.
