VHS : Misery [1991]
On the one hand, Misery is an excellent film. Many - if not all - of the characters are well cast, and very true to the book.

However, it has far less depth than the novel. For example, the book being written inside the book/film actually has a great deal of reference to the situation the author finds himself in, obviously basing the book around his life as Annie Wilkes' hostage.

In summary, read the book first. The film is pretty epic on its own, but it could have been so much better with the addition of a few extra scenes depicting the content of the novel being written, which would have shown more of Annie Wilkes' persona and added a great deal of irony to the situation.

Still, buy it.

2.Love, Honour and Obey (aka Independence Day) starring: David Keith, Kathleen Quinlan, Dianne Wiest, Frances Sternhagen, Cliff De Young

VHS : Outland [1981]
As many previous reviewers have said this is a remake of High Noon the classic western from the 1950's. So if you know the plot to that film you'll know the plot to this. The excellent Sean Connery is a Marshall sent to Io, one of Jupiters moons, which has a mining colony. He realises that too many workers are dying in odd circumstances and decides to find out why.

The main reasons to watch this are Connery, and the superb Frances Sternhagen as a colony medical advisor. Both give compelling performances, which compensate for the sometimes average script.

In an era when numerous classic Sci-fi and Horror films were released (Alien, American Werewolf in London and Escape from New York to name a few) this film tends to be forgotten, ... Read More:

VHS : Stephen King's Golden Years [1991]
Well, King has strayed from his usual horror story genre to produce a little bit of TV mini-series heaven.

Set in upstate New York, "Golden Years" is based around 70 year old Harlan Williams, a janitor working for a top secret government plant. He is accidently caught in an explosion from one of the labs where the typical cliche "mad scientist" Dr Todhunter was conducting so-called 'regeneration' experiments. Over time, Harlan begins to notice sudden changes in his body. Brown hairs begin to reappear in the place of grey ones, his skin becomes softer, his eyes don't need glasses anymore! He begins to get younger.

The accident causes some concern in the government, so the spooks are soon on the scene in the form of King's notorious "Shop" agents. ... Read More:
