VHS : The Lost Prince [2003]
This was one of the best ever BBC dramas.
It made me smile but at the end it will make you cry!
It showed some of history that you would never know about unless you were
a true historian.
Everybody played their part well.
Worth watching again and again.

VHS : Cromwell [1970]
A valiant and not entirely successful attempt at a very English 'thinking-man's' epic, Cromwell is one of the most interesting of the historical dramas of the early seventies - and also one of the most flawed.

The first third of the film is very ropey indeed, with banal dialogue full of stilted clichés (the best lines are from history, not Ronald Hardwood or Ken Hughes), a very mannered performance Richard Harris and a clumsy dilution of history. It is only too easy to think that the English Civil War was fought because Cromwell didn't get on with the King's wife and that it was won and lost on the outcome of two battles.

The first battle scene is surprisingly weak - even the extras die unconvincingly - and it is not until ... Read More:

3.The Sins [2000] starring: Pete Postlethwaite, Geraldine James, Claire Rushbrook, Kaye Wragg, Laura Rogers

VHS : The Sins [2000]
As suggested, this is an entire series, consisting of 7 episodes on 2 cassettes, which covers each of the 7 deadly sins. A quite wonderful series, whether a fan of Pete P. or otherwise. The writing for starters is truly inspired/ & inspiring, touching on many subjects entirely connected with being a human being...subjects that matter, like love, death, friendship, family. Combine such emotive language with the delivery from a brilliant cast of actors & actresses(or are both just termed actors these days?), & you`ll be weeping like Niagra Falls. So, plenty of loo-roll is mandatory. Well worth the price-tag.

4.The Return Of The Musketeers [1989] starring: Michael York, Oliver Reed, Frank Finlay, C. Thomas Howell, Kim Cattrall
directed by: Richard Lester
April 19, 1993

VHS : The Wild Geese [1978]
This is a great movie, the kind of "oldie but goldie" which is worth to be rediscovered many years after the first viewing. It has a good and smart story, very good action scenes which impress even today, 30 years after and last but not least, a STELLAR casting. Just count - Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris, Stewart Granger and Harry Kruger, in all five stars. And then Jack Watson, a less known actor, who plays sergeant master Sandy Young - and with his size and his face he is simply the perfect incarnation of sergeant masterdom. The story descibes a rescue operation in a fictif African country - a major mining company want to save a imprisoned African leader, hoping that once he seizes the power, he will give them favourable terms on mining concession. ... VHS : Ben Hur [1959]
It's definitely one of my favorites of all time because it's got stuff that most movies don't have: Everything. MGM and company unintentionally created a work of popular art that could only be fully appreciated in its original, pristine print, 70mm, super widescreen glory. It is no longer possible to make a film like Ben-Hur. Oh, George Lucas tries with all his computerized graphics, but this is a REAL spectacle, not some virtual one. 8,000 extras, tens of thousands of costumes, a $15 million budget (in the 1950's!), massive sets depict the power of Rome on the grandest possible scale. It took six years to complete production. Yet, its focus remains sharply on the detail, the private human experience of it all. The story doesn't get lost in the enormous vision of the work. ... VHS : Othello [1964]
At first you are impressed at the list of actors that appear (Maggie Smith, Derek Jacobi, and others). Then you are impressed with Olivier (makeup and acting style). Later you notice the great camera work that gives you the feel of the play and focuses in just the right place and time. The set gives us the feel we are watching the play (not some epic movie).
After the initial thrill you are so mesmerized by the play that all you see is the characters and the story augmented with Shakespeare's wit.

Othello and Desdemona are the perfect husband and wife. They love and trust each other implicitly. It seems that many other people especially men love Desdemona also. However, his most trusted and "honest" friend decides to act on this by treachery and deceit to convince ... Read More:
