VHS : The Student Prince [1997]
A brilliant film which tracks the progress of a prince through his English degree at Cambridge University. The film focuses on the prince, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Prince William, the bodyguard, Robson Green and a Fulbright scholar, Tara Fitzgerald. As Fitzgerald helps the prince with his work the working of the eternal love triangle is inevitable. Sad, funny and moving.

this film is quite comical really but it actually entertains you throughout and there is plenty of action to keep you interested.
i prefer this to eastwoods earlier war film "where eagles dare" this is definatly more enjoyable and lighthearted. but the real star of this film is old kojack himself who puts in a sterling effort trying to control his troops but will they get their gold ?

This is a really lovely movie - well made with brilliant acting. We loved this, and the beauty of it is, evn if you've not seen the original prancer film for a long time / ever, then there's enough information in this movie so you can understand what's happening and not feel at a loss! Makes you remember the real purpose of Christmas and family values - a beautiful movie and highly recommended for people of all ages.

VHS : Funny Bones [1995]
I have yet to actually meet someone else outside our family who has seen this masterpiece. It is a work of genius. It's hugely funny , worrying, sad, tragic and uplifting - and there aren't too many film you can say that about.

The breadth of strange talent on display is staggering. The one man marching band who uses no instruments and the biscuit tin tap dancer to name but two.

The leads are universally excellent. Oliver Platt went on to do wonderful work (see The Imposters)and Lee Evans has never been funnier. leslie Caron is gorgeous, Jerry Lewis is bravely unlikeable and even the dog "Toast" has character. The film for me is stolen by the two older performers, Freddie Davies and George Carl who have gravity, ... Read More:

VHS : Burn Hollywood Burn
Ah, the irony. A mock-documentary about a film director (Alan Smithee, played by Eric Idle) who disowns his own film, which the real life director actually disowned! Life imitating art!

I cannot understand why any director would disown "Burn Hollywood Burn". Certainly, it is not exactly subtle, but was that what the director expected from the original script?

Also, the opening credits go on too long. On the other hand, (a) the graffiti artwork accompanying the credits is excellent, and (b) that was the only time I felt the pace was dragging.

I laughed a lot. I particularly liked the captions describing the characters, particularly the way ALL the female characters describe themselves as feminists.

VHS : The Sand Pebbles [1966]
The Sand Pebbles, Robert Wise's epic tale of gunboat diplomacy in the turbulent China of the mid-Twenties is hugely ambitious and hugely expensive, yet, as with the best of his work, the focus is firmly on people, the momentous political events kept in the background until their consequences begin to overwhelm the principals. Even then, they are only drawn out of the small worlds they create for themselves (for Steve McQueen his engine room, for Candice Bergen her teaching in a remote mission) for purely personal reasons.

More than any epic of the Sixties, The Sand Pebbles seems to draw heavily on the chaos and the confusion of the then ongoing Vietnam War, so it's a real surprise that Wise seemed genuinely unaware of any parallels. Yet, ... Read More:
