VHS : Lion King II, The: Simba's Pride
I've always been reluctant of sequels especially the Disney ones. They've never sounded as good.

However we recieved this second hand and my sister decided to watch it..Out of interest once reading the case I decided to sit and watch through it and I was surprised to find it was not as bad as I thought it might.

I do love follow up stories, if they are done properly and this was done very well. An enjoyable follow up to the original and sounds better than the third and some of Disney's latest work. I love story by all accounts, which means it treads the same lines but the history and the consequences of that history is what makes it worthwhile, as is Timon and Pumba who are still as funny if not moreso.

This is one of my favourite movies. Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly, where can you go wrong? Frank is adorable in this movie and Gene is, how shall I say, hot! It has excellent songs in it, my fav being 'Modern man'. It's no Singing in the rain, but definatley worth an oggle.

I was sorely disappointed in this DVD - the quality was very poor and as I have some of the videos, have seen some of the excerpts shown I know for a definite fact the colour is really disconcertingly poor. To me it was like a copy of an original.
Not pleased one bit. Jessie Cowan.

I first saw this film when I was a girl, and vividly remember Gene Kelly swinging from balcony to balcony, looking extremely fit and attractive! The whole of the film takes you away to another, far-off world, and you can forget modern life for a while. I absolutely love it and bought 3 copies for friends and family when it became available on vhs. I highly recommend it to anyone who is tired of the modern day violence and swearing in most films these days, as a wonderful light-hearted story which will whisk you away for a couple of hours of pure entertainment and bliss!

VHS : Christmas Holiday [1944]
Not a particularly huge hit when released in 1944, 'Christmas Holiday' is really an extraordinary film, ahead of its time in my opinion. It is interesting to see Gene Kelly as the 'villian', not something we see often. When I first watched it, I really didn't know what to expect, and I can say that it left a huge impact on me, which led to my watching it twice more. It has to be one of the best (and underrated) black and white film. You won't be disappointed.

Nice DVD transfer too...special features only include a stills gallery, still, there are some nice shots here. Highly recommended film.

VHS : The Three Musketeers [1948]
For the first non-musical I've seen Gene Kelly in this was surprisingly good, and it is easy to see why out of all his non-musical films this was Gene Kelly's personal favorite. It fails to impress however in some important ways (this is just an opinion from a die-hard fan of the Oliver Reed/Michael York version) I found some of the musketeer costumes a bit hard to swallow those bright pastel colours detracted somewhat from the belivability I felt. From MGM it was probably expected to have an abundance of colour but for me it detracted from the realism. The sword play was very well choreographed. Another failing might just be true of my copy but the sound in the big fight at Milady's chateau was ever so slightly out of sync. But the main failing of this ... Read More:

this is quite well done although rather dated these days.
gene kelly is far too old, and charisse just looks smug all the time which I found a little irritating. several of the best songs are missing - both of Meg's (who is reduced to a few lines of dialogue in one scene with Jeff) and one of Charlie's, although we at least get the latter as an added extra feature. the gaps are filled with extra instrumental breaks (cue charisse and Kelly dancing) and reprises, particularly of the heather on the hill. Personally I woud have rather had the missing songs and less of this, as the result is continously and excessively sentimental.
having said that, it's not at all bad and would pass a pleaanant sunday afternoon, good value given the prce too.

I watch this video regularly, and never tire of it. The music is good and catchy and the whole film provides escapism entertainment. Definitely worth buying
