VHS : Hamlet [1991]
This Play is one of the most important pieces of drama and poetry in Shakespeare's complete works. A cycle of peace and quiet is disturbed by an incestuous crime, both the murder of a brother and the hasty and sensuous marriage of the murderer with the victim's wife, a marriage which is totally against the normal Christian and feudal rules of the time : you are not supposed to covet the wife of your brother. Then havoc falls onto the kingdom of Denmark. Hamlet is forced to play deranged and crazy to save his life and to cover up his violent defense against dangers around him. Ophelia will get deranged to the point of drowning herself. Then the cycle of disturbances will go on to its utter end which means the destruction of all the protagonists. ... Read More:

I was actually an extra in this film, so i'm a little biased. If you liked Tenko you will love it. If you like a bit of a chick flick, you'll like it too. Its very moving, and it was fun to make! Cate Blanchett's first film i believe.

VHS : Reversal Of Fortune [1991]
Glenn Close plays an extremely wealthy, not to mention sickly woman who mysteriously keels over and lies in a coma for the rest of the film.
However, worry not, the story is told in flashback's, so she does do a bit of acting as the unlikeably weiny Sunny Von Bulow.

But all is not what it seems, her cold but dutiful husband Claus Von Bulow, played by Jeremy Irons, is accused of wickedly dosing out too many pain killers. His motive: her large amounts of dosh. Accused of attempted murder Claus employs a top lawyer to defend himself. As the evidence and defence is produced and delivered your are constantly being forced to change your verdict as you see both sides of the situation.

I have to say I do like the Claus Von Bulow character ... Read More:

VHS : Fatal Attraction [1987]
A white-knuckled "don't-let-this-happen-to-you" thriller that vividly demonstrates what can happen to a guy when he lets other parts of his anatomy do his thinking for him.
Manhattan lawyer Dan Gallagher (Douglas) has it all: successful career, attractive wife, loving daughter. So why not have an extramarital fling with a woman he met at a party while the family is out of town? Sure. Just a one-night stand. No harm, no foul. But there's something very "foul" about Dan's partner in crime, because blonde Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) may have all the right moves in the sack, but she also has an elevator that doesn't go all the way to the top. So when Dan wants to shake hands and part company, Alex will have none of it, and the table is set for a one-way ticket to Looney ... Read More:

VHS : Andrew Lloyd Webber - The Royal Albert Hall Celebration [1998]
When in March 1998 Andrew Lloyd Webber turned 50, a full two-hour celebration gala concert was given in his honour at London's Royal Albert Hall. He certainly deserved it, since by that time he was rightly thought of as the most successful musical composer of all times. As it is wide known, he wrote numerous hit shows, including the two longest running musicals in the history of the West End and Broadway, i.e. "Cats" and "The Phantom of the Opera". So the numerous artists who performed his shows and singles were called together and they delivered this stunning concert accompanied by a wonderful symphonic orchestra. Every show up to that date, except "By Jeeves", "The Beautiful Game" and his latest, "The woman in white", was covered, the former from 2000 and the latter premiered ... Read More:

I saw this first when I was 18. Even now at 35 I still watch it again and enjoy just as much the weird characters and belivable lives they all live. Williams, in his first movie, I think, inspired me to live without missing a sunrise or appreciating the really positive wholesome things about life. This movie is also the World according to ME!.

VHS : The House Of The Spirits [1994]
First of all, I must admit that I've never read the book.

To be honest, I didn't even know that this film was an adaptation until I read the other reviews on Amazon. But whilst I can imagine the rolling landscapes and the charged emotions being sensuously described in a novel, a film cannot do this. And so whilst the occasional and seemingly random occurrences do eventually come together at the end, I spent the whole time waiting for something to happen, and then just breathed a sigh of relief when the whole thing was finally over.

As well as those few plot points that tied together of course, there were several blind alleys which (in my opinion) added absolutely nothing to the story. And so whilst the coup near the end of the film, Jeremy Iron's revelation ... Read More:

VHS : 101 Dalmatians - Live Action (Disney) [1996]
I must confess that, as of writing this review, I have yet to see the animated Disney feature "101 Dalmatians". I really have to wonder, though, how Disney came to acquire the notion that making a live-action equivalent would be a good idea. But the result is certainly entertaining enough to stand for its own merits.

The story is the same as in the animated movie; that of fur-obsessed fashion guru Cruella DeVil stealing Dalmatian puppies from married couple Anita and Roger (Jolie Richardson and Jeff Daniels, the latter not even attempting to adopt an English accent), in order to make a coat out of them. If the law will not stop Cruella's plans in time, then the dogs will.

The star of the movie - asides from the dogs, of course, delivering their roles very well - is ... Read More:
