VHS : Bounce [2001]
i bought this film by chance. i actually went to my local video rental to buy some dvd's but couldnt find the one i wanted so i bought this not expecting much. But i was pleasantly suprised that it was actually a really good film.

the actors did really well, i always liked ben affleck, even the two little boys in the film were really good. it's definately a film that deserves more recognition than it got i think. definately a film u should put in your dvd collection.

VHS : Sliding Doors [1998]
I admit that the first time I saw this movie I didn't like it at all. Now it is several years later and I have watched almost all of John Hannah's work, so I caught this movie on cable television. On my second viewing and much to my surprise, I absolutely loved it! I was already familiar with Gwyneth Paltrow's work. She is a very talented actress. Now, I also think John Hannah is a very talented actor.

As (Helen), Gwyneth Paltrow was smart, energetic, sexy yet sweet, very pretty, made the best of each situation, and sometimes made mistakes. She was a totally likable character.

As (James), John Hannah gets embarrassed and says silly things in the movie like, "never end a sentence with a preposition - must look ... Read More:

VHS : The Talented Mr Ripley [1999]
From the first reading of Highsmith's novel I felt she was a minor genius in evoking both the mind of a deeply disturbed character and the divided society of high elegance and low misery in which he moved and from which he was alienated. Was the split in his mind or the society's? Surely both. For years Holywood seemingly "bottled" out of confronting the issue as it avoided Highsmith's most masterly opus. This film was eagerly awaited. Disappointingly the whole comes to less than the sum of its parts. The locations and period values are stunning. The direction is considered. The essence of Highsmith's novel sporadically peeps through some of the acting. Yet the final article fails to convince. Damon and Law are too unsubtle and lack the chemistry ... Read More:

VHS : Hush [1997]
A well acted over the top film that feels as if it has been transported directly from a stage play.

Also the stifling relationship between Martha Baring (Jessica Lange) and her son Jackson (Jonathan Schaech) takes us back to the territory of Joan Crawford's dark dramas from the 1940s.

Jackson's new wife Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) is soon in contention with her husband's relationship with her mother-in-law, and this is fuelled by his grandmother Alice (in a fine cameo role by Nina Foch).

Well acted and directed by Jonathan Darby but whilst successfully creating the over integrated relationship between mother and son, it fails to rise above the pulp fiction standard of the screen play.

Still there is plenty ... Read More:

VHS : Emma [1996]
What makes this version of Emma enjoyable is the exquisite costumes, locations and colour. I love the portrayals of Miss Bates, Mr & Mrs Elton & Mrs Weston (or poor Miss Taylor). Gwyneth Paltrow makes a pleasant Emma, but although I love her as an actress, I don't think she has really identified with the character of Emma. I am not convinced of Harriet Smith or Frank Churchill either, they are just not authentic to the characters. Mr Knightley is just about passable. The main problem with this is that the story has been severely condensed and I feel alot of the important scenes in the book have been dropped, which has greatly reduced the effect of the story. The TV version starring Kate Beckinsale & Mark Strong have much stronger character portrayals ... Read More:

VHS : Shakespeare In Love / Sense And Sensibility [1999]
Writing a play is a tiresome burden when you don't have the faintest idea what it is going to be about but you need to hand it over real soon. Fortunately, Will Shakespeare finds his muse and the authors of the screenplay also had at least a brief encounter with theirs.
Basically a romantic comedy SIL offers much more that the standard "boy meets girl, boy loses girl" scenario - they present it in a fantastically well rendered setting taking as much as they could from the Swan of the Avon.
A perfect way to spend an afternoon - you get your share of romance, adventure, and literary history (the latter should not be taken at face value, however). Do you need more?

VHS : Great Expectations [1998]
To say that 'the essence of Dickens is perfectly rendered' (as claimed by one reviewer) in this dumbed-down monstrosity is an insult to the intelligence of anyone who has read the original. Everything that made the original story great, including the plot twists, is stripped out, leaving a withered husk of the story, and creating (using the term loosely) a basic, rather tedious love story. I was actually left angry after watching this. It is sad that society has degraded to the level of intelligence that is the target audience of what can only be described as a hate crime against Dickens.

8.Seven [1996] starring: Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Gwyneth Paltrow, R. Lee Ermey

VHS : Seven [1996]
Seven is a great film but in my humble opinion, I find it to be overated. Yes, the murder scenes are amazing and the acting from Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey is brilliant, the film takes too long to get going and as there are 7 murders and the film is over 2 hours long, this means alot of the film is wasted with unessecery scenes. Seven would have gotten 5 stars if they had cut the running time by 20 minutes.

9.Shakespeare in Love [1999] starring: Geoffrey Rush, Joseph Fiennes, Tom Wilkinson, Antony Sher, Martin Clunes

VHS : Shallow Hal [2002]
I absolutely adore this film. It's funny and well-written script. Actors did great jobs, especially Gwyneth Paltrow.
Deleted scenes are good too. It's so shame that they had to be deleted whatever the reasons are.
Jack Black (Hal) was of course funny but Mauricio was even funnier!
I've already watched this film more than 5 times. It still makes me laugh every time I watch it.
Personally, I think this is one of the greatest comedy films ever made and it is definitely worth adding to your DVD collection.
