I sometimes wonder about what is a review and what is a history lesson or what is a rehash of the entire film. Basically I think that in this scenario we should look at; Is it a good film? does it make you want to see more? ARE YOU ENJOYING IT? or are you so busy nit picking that you miss the whole context of what is going on? Do not watch this film with anything other than an open mind and an acute sense of outrageous humour. woof woof.

I saw a Sam Shepherd play recently, so I was quite surprised to see that Sam Shepherd wrote this screenplay. But having seen two pieces of his work, you can detect a style. Shepherd examines the dark side of families, the frustrations, the pain, the fights and their consequences. He likes long monologues uncovering a web of events and feelings. I think the dialogue in this film is superb.

The landscape and the music is also rich in metaphor. Kinski is a wisperish, idealised beauty. The other adult characters are weatherbeaten by life's demands. This is a long, slow and often banal film, but it says something about real lives. I first saw this film over twenty years ago. It lingers and haunts, and that thematic strum of the guitar stays ... There's no doubt that this film is worthy of cult status, and to many this is one of those all-time-classics. For me though, it's a good film, but doesn't quite hit the mark as a great film.

Some elements of the film are beautifully done; the generic packaging of food products, the bleak urban feel, and the seemingly apathy to violence and death make for a great dystopian atmosphere. This means that although the film is filmed/set in the 1980's, it has a futuristic look to it, almost like Mad Max.

The dystopia is developed further as the main characters have little or no ambition, whenever someone discusses what they want from life it's never anything more than committing crime or becoming a `fry chef' in a fast food place. ... Read More:

Shot in 1983 within a 30 mile radius of LA, this is an absolutely terrific little horror flick from John Carpenter ("The Fog", "The Thing", "Vampires", "Halloween") about a car, a 1958 Plymouth Fury, apparently possessed by its dead owner who bought it new and ended up choking to death on its exhaust fumes, as did his wife and daughter.

Except that even as it was rolling down the production line, the car had an evil influence on surrounding people (first a guy had his hand trapped in the bonnet then another who dropped ash on the seat was found dead in the car) so it isn't quite as simple as it being haunted by the original owner, more like whatever possessed the car already simply manifesting itself as that person.

The car special effects, ... Read More:

I bought this film becuase i saw it on a comming soon trailer on american yakuza, having a liking of gangster films i thought this looked interesting. However this is not just a run of the mill ganster movie although the yakuza(japanese gangsters) are the predominent sorce of the action in the film. The yakuza are engaged in a crime war with their rivals over the tour bus trade in L.A. During an assasination a stray bullet hits a young boy, the son of title role virginia madson. All she see's of the killer is the tattoo of a blue tiger on his chest she vows revenge and sets about tracking him down. As the film progress' Virginia gets a large tattoo of a red tiger on her back because there is an old chinese saying that the blue tiger will seek out the red tiger. This film kept ... Read More:

As you can tell from the other people's reviews this movie is brilliant!!
But what is not said (at least I don't think so! I didd'nt read all 100+ reviews!) is the picture quality! i'm using a Toshiba 47" 1080i LCD HDTV with a PlayStation3 with HDMI connection.

For a DVD it's got AMAZING detail! I'm surprised they managed to fit this 3 hour film with this quality onto a DVD!! I have a collection of around 500 DVDs & this must be in the top 5 of best picture quality in my selection!

Buy it! you won't regret it! (or wait for the Blu-ray)

VHS : Alien [1979]
A ship heading home is sent on an SOS to an unidentified planet where the crew discover the planet's mysterious creatures.

Ridley Scott's epic Sci-Fi has now become a landmark in the genre with a gruesome and horrific look at outer space and its mysteries.

Scott's direction is exceptional in capturing the right mood for the horrific scenes involving the Alien but more so, the sweeping shots of outer space when the crew lands on the unknown planet. The dark lighting and the chilling fog help create that creepy feeling and when entering new realms of the planet do we see an unknown universe, and plenty of unanswered questions, which is what Alien is all about.

Many scientists, and people in general, have debated whether there are other life ... Read More:

VHS : Twin Peaks - Fire Walk With Me [1991]
Twin Peaks was definately groundbreaking TV back in the late 1980's early 1990's. David Lynch created a world in which the audience cared about all the characters and the result was pure magic as most fans of Twin Peaks agree. FIRE WALK WITH ME is a prequel to the TV series charting the last seven days of Laura Palmer's life.
The film as a whole is good but could be so much better. A high percentage of the TV cast aren't used, basically because it's not there story, however, leaving out Michael Ontkean's/Harry Trueman and Richard Beymer's/Ben Horne does raise the question as to why these popular Twin Peaks characters/important to the storyline were infact left out of this prequel?
Sheryl Lee is fantastic as the troubled Laura Palmer and troubled is a mild way of describing here ... Read More:
