VHS : A Night To Remember [1958]
This is a beautiful and respectful rendition of the great sea disaster. There is great attention to detail, the cast are fantastic and the effects stand up to the test of time very very well indeed. At least you have no dodgy CGI!

Just a word of note this is a dual sided DVD disc. The film is on side A and the making of is on side B. The making of is very comprehensive and quite interesting. I'd never seen behind the scene's action footage on such early films!

If you like a good old fashioned disaster movie, or a movie with heart of soul then this is a must buy.

VHS : Minder - On The Orient Express [1985]
The first of only two feature-length 'Minder' episodes (the other being 'An Officer And A Car-salesman'), this is a must-have for all fans of that seminal 1980s classic that made 'Arthur Daley' a by-word for dodgy dealing, and introduced 'er indoors' to the Oxford English Dictionary.

After leaping to the defence of an attractive young woman, salt-of-the-earth Terry McCann is rewarded with a romantic journey for two. But instead of enjoying the warm female company of his club-manager girlfriend, Terry is, of course, stitched-up by loquacious, summons-dodging Arfur, who inveigles his way onto the world's most romantic train ... by taking, of course, diabolical liberties.

Gimmicky, disjionted, over reliant on this new gadgetry which was suddenly very appealing to a fast growing consumerist society, it has far less of the essence of James Bond as in the Flemming novels than previous Bond movies. It has things in it that make it memorable, but its biggest fault was to take us down the 'wealthy mad man with a fiendish weapon of mass destruction tucked away in a holed out volcano, with a couple of hundred uniformed henchmen-cum-mercenaries happily working for him' storyline, the kind of stuff which gave Mike Myers so much material with which to ridicule the formula. It is only Pussy Galore that stops me giving this movie the dreaded one star treatment. Really, this was not the path to take our beloved 007 down. You want a proper Bond ... Read More:
