VHS : Bangkok Hilton [1990]
This mini-series is well acted and has a great plot surrounding a young woman who was duped into carrying drugs through Bangkok. The plot is more complex and rich than that simple summary and it is exceptional viewing.
As others have commented, the soundtrack is appalling. Most contemporary movies seem to have constant and unnecessary noise put in for effect that is annoying but this film tops the lot. The background music is high volume and it seems that the creator of this is trying to compete with the actors for the viewer's attention. It almost destroyed the whole movie. I blame the producer for allowing this ego trip on what should have been a classical piece of viewing.

VHS : Bedrooms and Hallways [1999]
This is a funny, bizare but overall interesting story, well told and well acted!

If you enjoy campy comedies, which are slightly surreal, very believable and make you almost cry with laughter then this is the one for you!

Comes complete with drum banging men trying to get to love their fellow man! A sex-addict estate agent and his long suffering lover, a man who falls for a straight man only to find his love is recripicated.

It is a great story with great actors! One for any video collection!

VHS : The Matrix [1999]
I had always enjoyed watching this movie for all the reasons stated in other reviews, but last night I sat through an hour and fifty odd minutes of the director's cut of "Dark City" - released in 1998 and totally ignored by the majority of critics and film goers. In fact, The Director's Cut copy I had was given to me by a friend and, as far as I know, is not available in this country. The plot of this film is about a populace trapped in a perpetually dark city, which is closed down and re-tuned by the controllers. Memories are altered, people put into other slots in the society, and the entire landscape altered as part of the experiment. Essentially it's The Matrix, but without all the silly Kung Fu, shouting and shooting and the pseudo religious clap ... Read More:

VHS : The Matrix Reloaded [2003]
This film divides people. There are those who think it is a sequel that attempts to broaden the ideas of the first movie, to explore the powerful ideas of freewill vs predetermination. Possibly it is even an explanation of religion; how can man have freewill if there is an omnipotent creator? There are others who think that this is a pompous, overblown, self important, humourless pile of rubbish. I fall into the latter category.

I LOVE the first film. It's fantastic, and whizzes by in a blur. A great central idea, great effects and it keeps moving along at a thousand miles an hour. But then the Wachowskis tried to get all intellectual on us. This sequel is too long, it has an impenetrable script, it thinks it is too clever, it thinks we care ... Read More:

VHS : Proof [1991]
This is a surprising little film, starring a very youthful Russell Crowe. It focuses on the traditional story of the threesome, examining the three-way relationship between a blind photographer, his obsessed housekeeper and the newcomer, played by Crowe. Whilst the hook is the oddity of a blind man taking photos of the world he can't see, it is really a study of relationships and the lies people tell within them. There are some extremely funny scenes yet the story is gripping and disturbing. The acting is restrained, the dialogue convincing and, even if it all works out a little too neatly at the end, the storyline intriguing.
