VHS : Lord Of The Flies [1963]
Worthy restoration edition of this mostly forgotten film, with extras and director commentary. There's a whole generation who have never read the book or seen the film, unless it's on their GCSE topics list. Look around and see what's happening in inner cities today and you realise that this film is more relevant now than when it came out in '63. Don't blame the production team for the choppy editing or limited character development; that was the fault of the distributors who wanted a 90 minute film, not the two hours the director intended. It would be impossible to make a film as close as this to the book now. Don't even look at the '93 remake, its hopeless.

I thoroughly enjoyed this production - it is closer to Hardy's novel than the earlier version starring Julie Christie. Baeza's reading of Bathsheba Everdine is excellent, totally in character. She skillfully combines Bathsheba's independent spirit with both her youth and naivety. She is at all times consistent and convincing. In the Julie Christie version, Christie overplayed the role, moving away from Hardy's intention, and came close at times to trivialising the character. Also, she did not consistently capture the youthfulness and innocence of Bathsheba. The Everdine/Troy sword scene was also overplayed in the Christie version, including sequences that were not in the novel and which, quite honestly, reduced the emotional impact of this ... This was a high-quality production and pretty accurate historically, at least as far as I can tell from my reading of various biographies and other books relating to the British Royal Family. The only problem I had with this teleplay was its presentation of the character of Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor.

There is one scene in particular, which shows him grabbing Wallis Simpson's backside, which is completely out of character for him. Anyway SHE would have bitten his head off if he'd tried anything like that with her in "real life", because she was always (despite anything else that can be said about her) very conscious of her dignity, as he was also...I suppose the filmmaker needed to "dramatize" what a selfish, self-centered person ... VHS : The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle (1980) [1982]
This movie is an entertaining look at the sex pistols rise to fame in 10 simple steps, told by manager Malcom Mclaren, its a must see for pistols fans. Although it was released after the death of Sid Vicious and the departure of Johnny Rotten, it still contains rare footage of both, including sid's last ever interview and unreleased studio tracks. Sadly this Film has become a rarity because of the fact it has been discontinued, I have a very bad copy of it on Video Disc and it is very hard to find on VHS, a couple of years ago it was released in Japan on DVD but sadly it wasn't released for long so to find a DVD version is even harder. So Instead of Releasing instead of just releasing Sex Pistols CDs For the pistols 25th Anniversary, Virgin should have ... Read More:

VHS : Welcome To Sarajevo [1997]
This movie shows the truth of the agression by the serbian forces, it isn't a biased movie by any stretch of the imagination, rather it doesn't take a political viewpoint, it instead focuses on combining real life footage with a strong true to life story.

If you can't believe that serbs really planed this attack, and don't want to believe they are guilty for mass murder, you should find a more fictional movie or book, but history has what happend and this movie shows a large part of that history.

by the way it's actually an excellent piece of film making and it takes you on an informing and very good emotional journey.

I saw this flick when i was just a lass and enjoyed it immensely so i'm keen it's not overlooked as it's a groovy film. An Evil(But powerfull...GIRL POWER !) Egyptian Priestess takes over the body of the beautifull daughter of one of the team who discovered her sarcophagus (whith the cartoosh that bore her name scratched off)! She then setts about retreiving the sacred objects that each of the team posess...I particularly enjoyed the retreival of the Jackels skull from the unfortunate man in the mental assylum..very spooky. This film has a good plot and a twist at the end. So if you enjoy severed hands, gruesom murders, egyptian magic, historical spookyness and heaving clevage + lotts of eyeshadow.... buy this movie you'll enjoy it too!

VHS : The Nanny [1965]
This is an excellent psychological thriller in which Bette Davis plays the part of a nanny in a household where a little girl, one of her charges, drowned in the bathtub and her older brother was blamed, even though he claimed that the nanny did it. After two years time spent in a therapeutic setting, the boy returns home, only to find the despised nanny still there. A cat and mouse game ensues between the two, and when his mother is poisoned, all eyes turn to him, though he once again insists that the nanny did it.

Deftly directed, with a well written, intelligent screenplay by Jimmy Sancster, who also wrote the screenplay for the Bette Davis vehicle, "The Anniversary", this is an engrossing film with a twist at the end that is sure to catch the ... Read More:

I have adored this film since I was a young teenager and having just watched it again, I enjoyed it even more. The combination of Deneuve, Bowie, Sarandon and Bauhaus results in an effortlessly charismatic and other-worldly atmosphere, but just as importantly as the horror story it tells, I think this film beautifully brings the 1980s back to life.

Beautiful and odd, perfect in spite of its faults, this is a hugely enjoyable film.
