VHS : Jane Fonda's Low Impact Aerobic Workout [1986]
I've used this video for 20 years now. Yes it's old fashioned and JF is smug, but there you go. It was made a long time ago. So was I. I am 60 in a couple of months. I've returned to the video recently after recovery from a bad knee injury. I used the LI workout in the eighties four weeks after major surgery. Both times with medical agreement. It works, I can keep weight off easily and it helps keep me moving like a dancer. I've done power aerobics and have been exercising for over 40 years to keep fit (and slim, as a by-product). But when you have to listen to your body, and if you want a non-competitive workout which works, use this. ignore the superficiality of the dated appearance.

This is a really great video for beginners, because it's so easy to follow, so you don't get demoralised, tripping over your feet, trying to follow some complicated routine. For people who are more fit, I would recommend doing both segments back-to-back as part of your overall exercise programme - a pleasant change - since mixing a variety of different workouts is supposed to be the key to maintaining fitness and preventing boredom.

VHS : Jane Fonda's Workout - Lean Routine
If, like me, you're over 40, then this will appeal as you titter at the 'big' hairstyles, fluorescent leotards, leggings, sweatbands and gorgeously camp male class members. Then there's terminally perky Laurel, who is so energetic and enthusiatic, she looks as if she appears courtesy of the local crack den and you'll certainly tone your buttocks (through embarrassed clenching) as she introduces classmate Jeannie - "Meet my girlfriend Jeannie - now she's your girlfriend too!" My children literally keel over with laughter at this, but I love it! All joking aside, this is a good (if slightly complex - but practice makes perfect) workout, that feels more like a dance class. There's no toning/crunches/proper cooldown stretch section, but it certainly ... Read More:

Probably the best movie of this director: a true celebration of the legend of the American west. The movie tells the classic story of the gunfight at the OK Corral with sheriff Wyatt Earp: while it isn't historically realistic, it outshines ALL later attempt to do a more accurate version of the story. The reason is simple: Ford always said that "the legend is more interesting than the truth". Of course it's a Hollywood movie, and it's not a revisionist Peckimpah western, but it has interesting characters (even the lesser one such as the barman are believable and add some human touches), a solid plot, a great screenplay (don't miss the Shakespearean actor who wants to perform in a saloon!!!) and an EXTRAORDINARY B&W cinematography.

VHS : The Chase [1966]
Arthur Penn has set the stage for a great social satire on various issues like class distinction ,racial bigotry, saturday night social revelvry, adultery and finally the failure of justice in a breach of the american dream in this taut drama set in a texan town on a warm saturday night .

Redford has broken from prison and a lot of people are afraid for themselves due to a freaky guilty conscience,as they have wronged him and fear revenge and this premise becomes a viloent circus on the american attraction to the glorification of crime and anti-social behaviour.

Fonda As Redfords wife and Brando as the sheriff is trying to find him before he can be slaughtered as a sacrificial lamb by the town people who need a show on saturday ... Read More:

I certainly enjoyed what is a comfortable if slightly predictable story, but as a film this one falls somewhat short of deserving its "classic" status, never mind its three academy awards, especially so, the award for best screenplay. Why? Well surely the mark of a truly great film is its ability to draw the viewer in, to remove the camera and allow the audience to immerse themselves in the scene, to become in effect, silent participants. The actors become "real" characters caught in a moment of "real life"; the artificiality of actors actually acting is lost.

Well you certainly don't get that here. The whole effect is rather like watching a stage play from way back in the stalls. The actors might play their characters perfectly competently, ... Read More:

This is fairly straight forward and easy workout.
That said, it is effective and has its place in a collection if you mix it with perhaps a half an hour cardio/aerobic/step vid beforehand to get the muscles warm and feel as if you've had a decent workout as this would finish it off with the toning.

What a great movie - can't believe I'd never even heard of it before last week. Why is it not still in circulation?
The sound quality is the only thing that let's it down, to be honest it is terrible, but the storyline and filming are first class.
Obviously the film is quite dated now, but Luke Martin (played by Jon Voight)is just gorgeous and shines throughout the film.
When we first meet Luke he is stuck in the VA hospital, strapped face down on a bed and roaming the wards with the aid of two sticks. He is obviously upset and angry at not being looked after properly (the hospital is understaffed) - he complains of not being bathed often enough or having his urine bag emptied and is probably frustrated with being stuck in a hospital bed ...
