VHS : Doctor Who - The Awakening/Frontios [1963]
A well written and well produced story, this boasts one of Peter Davison's finest ever portrayals of the Doctor. here is is strong, domineering, quirky, eccentric, funny and manipulative in turns, commanding the screen and dealing with human authorities and nasty, scheming alien creatures with equal amounts of authority. Anyone who thinks davsion is not one of the best Doctors needs look no further than this story to see the emergence of a giant, ready to become an unsurpassed legend just two stories later as he visits a set of titular Caves! Watch it and savour it, it is one of the finest! The dialog alone is a treat to ears! Watch it!

I am going to be mildly controversial here and support this DOCTOR WHO release!
As a long-term fan I am naturally nostalgic and wear 'rose-tinted spectacles' whenever watching Dctor Who; what genuine fanboy wouldn't? Tom Baker was my first (and favourite) Doctor and Peter Davison comes second - mainly due to his tenure being during my adolescent and formative years. I remember both of these stories clearly and fondly: Black Orchid is one of the best Doctor Who stories ever realised on TV - mainly because it's so cosy and redolent of the kind of fictional England that only ever exists on TV, (think Midsomer Murders, Poirot et al). Although, as often stated, the plot is fairly mundane, it is a lot of fun - not one but TWO foxy Nyssas, a marginalised ... Read More:

some stories of doc who have great storylines and acting but obvious limitations of budget, like in the sun makers and underworld, and some stories have great storylines and great designing, and here is one of the best for its overall look on the eye.

not just the impressive and massive looking sets, but also the cultures developed and shown throughout. and monarch is a great central moron if ever there was one. Peter Davison is a great doctor, here in his debut performance as the time lord. And the crew of the TARDIS are all different and all get a decent amount of things to do.

this is doctor who at its most imaginative and fun.

VHS : Doctor Who - Resurrection Of The Daleks [1963]
This was one of the first Doctor Who stories I ever wached and it had me hooked ever since. The Daleks, and darkness of the story and also the presence of the unexpected to happen make this one of the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time. Its a shame the so called 'new series' of Doctor Who could take this as example of a brilliant plot and stunning special effects considering how under funded the show was. No new Doctor Who comes close to this even with the amount of money they have now to make a good Who story they don't realise that the Doctor is not human, he is origonal, witty, funny and never lets anyone get emotionally involved with him. Which is what the new series lacks in. You only have to look at the poor attempt of the Doctor's new costume to see ... Read More:

This episode is one of those rare occasions where the then current doctor meets his previous selves. This time its Peter Davison(the 5th doctor)meeting with his other selves.Sadly William Hartnell (the 1st doctor)had passed away by the time this was made,so another actor takes his place. He is no Hartnell, but is adequate .Patrick Troughton(the 2nd doctor)and Jon pertwee reprise their roles with aplomb. The Brigadier puts in an appearance and is his usual self.Unfortunately Tom Baker-the 4th,and best doctor-is only in it for 2 minutes, and doesnt get to meet any of his alter egos.He would have made this episode even better. There is very little plot here, but there are some great scenes involving the daleks, the cybermen, the master and of course, the 5 doctors.

VHS : Doctor Who - Snakedance [1983]
This sequel to Kinda is a fabulous Dr.Who story which works very effectively in every department and contains much impressive characterisation, acting and story telling. Janet Fielding excells as the possessed Tegan, making a superb villainess and the guest cast are all first rate. Best of all, Peter Davison is on top form, giving a startling and exuberant performance, full of energy, passion and enthusiasm. Sadly, some see him as ineffective, probably as stories like this portray him very much as the underdog, with those he meets pig-headedly ignorant and indifferent to his words of warning. It is more the case that the sitiation has been made bigger than the Doctor in order to generate real suspense and tension, rather than any lack of conviction or gravitas on the part ... Read More:

VHS : Doctor Who - The Five Doctors / The King's Demons - Box Set [1983]
'The Five Doctors' has since been released on dvd (twice) so I will restrict this review to the two part story 'The King's Demons'. This was not meant to be the last story of the 20th season, but ended up being so due to a strike that resulted in a Dalek story being cancelled. As such, it is hardly the bang that a season should end with, simply showing the Master meddling around with history. At two parts at least it does not outstay it's welcome. It is surprising that JNT ever allowed Kamelion to come aboard the TARDIS as a new companion, seeing that he did not like K9. Regular viewers would have had no problem identifying the story's villain the moment he appears in 'disguise'. That aside, this is a watchable enough tale, though no classic.

Isn't it funny how the stories which seemed over complicated and inferior all those years ago now seem to be the most entertaining, largely because of the humour content and the fact they they were something different to the norm. Also, time has levelled all Dr.Who stories in terms of SFX, even the flashy ones seem scarcely more impressive than the cheap ones, nowadays. This story holds up better than most because the plot is highly unusual and similar to "The Langoliers", with the Concord time travelling to a fake air port which evaoporates to reveal Earth during the ice age, and because the dialog is witty and quirky and endearingly old fashioned by today's standards.
And what about the Master? A lot of people complained it made no sense for him to dress up and put on ... Read More:
