VHS : The Big Blue: Version Longue [1989]
I first watched this movie in 1992 in America and loved it. The calmness of Jacques was so ethereal and gave Jean Reno a chance to shine so comically. I became an instant fan and started watching more Luc Besson movies. However, on returning to the UK and purchasing it for a friend, I was mortified by the Eric Sierra score which jarred with the story. To add insult to injury, I purchased 2 soundtrack cd's hoping for the Goldsmith music. So what I'm trying to say is, watch the US version which is a completely different experience.

There is not really anything that could be added to the previous reviews - this film was part of my (German)PC Magazine subsrciption in 2005. Eversince, I have been watching this film time and again and have also bought the UK Region 2 version which has English and French soound and what should I say, my British partner fell in love with this film just in the same way as I had been. Absolutely a great film that: it has lot's of good humane humour, a heartwarming story masterly set alive by Jean Reno, Mercedes Ruehl and all otehr roles played wonderfully. Set in a wonderful Italian countryside this film is going deeper than any Hollywood plastic romance films ever managed to do.

6.The Crimson Rivers [2000] starring: Jean Reno, Vincent Cassel, Nadia Fares, Dominique Sanda, Jean-Pierre Cassell

I suppose the reason why i liked the original and the sequel is due to the fact both films have a strong leading cast. Sure you'll have seen the formula before which consists of an older, wiser cop partnered with a younger inexperienced one. But if you happen to be a fan of Reno and Cassell then you should find this enjoyable. The location and musical score certainly add something of a positive nature to the final product. Bodies show up and are connected to a prestigious university, a thesis on eugenics and a dark secret which is being protected by one of the locals. Turn your brain to stand-by, sit back and enjoy.

The first time I watched this film I was slightly bored - couldn't understand what was being said or why. However, having watched it again recently I took each 'story' at face value and found myself thoroughly enjoying the beautiful camera work and actually making some sense of what the film was about and the various themes at play.

if you're not interested in watching films about the genesis of ideas, this is definitely not for you, but if you just want to sit back and watch a couple of hours of beautiful film making, I would reccomend it.

8.Les Visiteurs starring: Jean Reno, Christian Clavier, Valerie Lemercier

A gently amusing film with very watchable characters in all the roles. I havent seen the English language version but find it hard to believe that it could surpasse, or even be equal to, the original.

Not the gretest comedy of all time either but one to watch when the rain is pouring down and life sucks.

Definitely one to be watched in the original French language and please please lets hope they never release a dubbed English version.

I really enjoyed this film. Like a good French meal, the flavours build up in subtle beguiling layers. Great setting of Paris and an irresistible combination of sexy, French, laid back hero and uptight, American heroine. This combo has been done before in Green Card, but the plot here is completely different and has a fresh feel to it. The friction between the characters unfolds beautifully into a frisson and then passion thru the conduit of the accidental kiss. Having already heard the characters respective opinions on kissing, this is quite enchanting.

Initially, we come to know Kate's (Meg Ryan) story in a light comical fashion. We are then taken thru a train journey into Luc's (a very convincing Kevin Kline) story. This is a sensual delight. A feast ... Read More:

I finally get to voice my opinion on this movie. Don't get me wrong, it's great. Even realistic. Yet there are some false....what should I call them...statements and scenes in the movie. I maybe 19, but I know a heck of a lot about jets. First of all, the only mistake I noticed was the naming of the Aircraft they were involved in dogfights with at the beginning and end of the movie. Sure, it's just a movie, but they wanted to be accurate, right? Anyway, they made a good move by deciding to call those jets MIG-28s because that's a fictional plane. Secondly, the problem is their actually American F-5s. Check the Airforce if ya want but I know my stuff. So if I was reviewing the movie I would give it 4 1/2 stars, not 5. It may seem completely senseless for me to say this, ... Read More:
