VHS : The Baby Of Macon [1993]
Director Peter Greenaway, no stranger to making films with an OTT content made this - The Baby Of Macon in 1994. It was slammed by many critics for being too OTT (even by Greenaway's standards) and indeed many of the audience who did show up to watch it, tended to walk out in disgust at some of the sequences. The film faded quietly away in cinemas and its subsequent releases on both vhs and dvd tended to do the same... That is a shame because while the film has its flaws, it has strengths which propel it into 4 star territory.

The film is of the recreation of a stage play put on for a bloated aristocrat. The play is about the lurid events that happened in the French town of Macon during Medieval times. However, reality and what ... Read More:

VHS : Legends Of The Fall [1995]
It is hard not to focus on the cast the spotless performance by every single actor and actress in this movie. What makes Legends of Fall a must-watch film is the extraordinary story that lies within. The viewers will be gobsmacked by events that will shatter a family and reunite a bond of love that carries an unbearable ethical burden. This is not a straight-forward movie, by this I mean there are several issues going on at the same time, constantly intriguing the viewer, yet the way this movie is made manages not to confuse its audience.

This movie is powerful because it emphasises on how love will always find its way, no matter where and when. Throughout the movie you will be filled with sadness, joy, anxiety, laughter, fear - the sort of ... Read More:

It's 2:40 in the morning and have just seen this film on TV and I've come straight online to buy it - it's THAT good!

A refreshing change from the Hollywood glitz, drama and special effects, the film really relies on the actors and the story line and has the most amazing cliff-hanger ending. It is the most enthralling film I've seen for a long while - I didn't want to blink for fear of missing a moment of it.

I'm absolutely hooked and would recommend this film to everyone.

I am dying to know what happens after the ending!

7.Barber Of Siberia [1998] starring: Julia Ormond, Richard Harris, Oleg Menshikov, Alexey Petrenko
directed by: Nikita Mikhalkov

VHS : Barber Of Siberia [1998]
A beautiful film, visually, with Mikhalkov conjuring up 19th century Moscow brilliantly. Oleg Menshikov flirts with self-parody at times (Richard Harris goes way overboard, alas) - he conjures up his musical/stage persona to the point that the first half of the film comes across as a rather lightweight stage performance. But it is worth sticking to it -- it may be overly long, but as a thinly veiled statement about foreign influence and Russia, reflecting the country's experience in the 1990s, it is quite powerful.

8.Nostradamus [1995] starring: Tchéky Karyo, F. Murray Abraham, Rutger Hauer, Amanda Plummer, Julia Ormond

After renting this DVD following the good reviews on here, I just wanted to stop anyone else wasting an evening watching this utter tosh, as I did.

I watched to the bitter end in the vain hope it would eventually get better, and it doesn't. Wooden acting, hammy lines, a desperately over-aged cast that makes the main premise of the plot laughable and a cast of entirely dislikeable, shallow characters, means this is one film I would not recommend anyone to see.

Maybe the original, with better cast actors and made in a different era, was quite good. I don't know, I haven't seen it. But for even the most die-hard Harrison Ford fan (and believe me, I like him a lot usually), this is one to miss. How he got through the film without cracking up at the abysmal ... Read More:
