VHS : Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata [2004]
Before I say anything else, I'll say that I enjoyed this 'midquel.' In fact, I think that The Lion King 1 and 1/2 (or 3) should have gone theatrical. It's sweet, funny and the animation is downright gorgeous. Timon and Pumbaa are two of my favourite characters and I can never get enough of them.

But something's missing. It's that nostalgic feel I get when I watch the first two, especially Simba's Pride. It's simply not there. And it's because this was not part of my childhood like the first films were. I have no fond memories of it, since when it came out, I thought I was too old for 'a baby movie like The Lion King,' and so I didn't care for it. It's only when I realised that The Lion King was more than just a mere 'kids movie' ... Read More:

VHS : Awakenings [1990]
Awakenings is a little known masterpiece that I discovered late one night while channel surfing. I was immediately taken back by the depth of the film and purchased the DVD for a very low price on Amazon the following day. The film stars Robert De Niro and Robin Williams and is based on a non-fictional book written by Oliver Sacks. Awakenings follows Dr Malcolm Sayer who takes up a post at a hospital in New York in 1969. The Doctor played perfectly by Robin Williams, discovers some of his patients - who surivied the 1916 sleeping sickness epidemic can be helped to awaken from their existence as living statues through the use of an experimental drug. The film is moving and powerful with the ability to question how you value the life of others. So if ... Read More:

VHS : Simpsons, The - On Your Marks, Get Set, D'Oh
This video begins with one of the poorest episodes of the last 2 series. It doesn't seem to have a firm plot and never really gets going.

'The Homer They Fall' is a classic, Homer becomes a boxer and fights Mike Tyson look-a-like Drederick Tatum for the world title. 'Dancin' Homer' is an old favourite but not too many laughs are to be found.

'Lisa On Ice' has one of the best comedy moments in television history. Homer trys to eat a pie with it being the pie's fault because its in the way of Homer's munching mouth, but he ends up head-butting the gril on top of the cooker where the pie is. Also Homer chasing Uter with a wet towel is not to be missed.

Allen's contribution is quite hilarious and loveable.
Scorcese - yes, a bit pretentious but really a very honest portrayal of artistic angst... maybe.
Coppola - pointless [...].

This video is unbelievably funny with a brilliant mix of episodes.

In 'Beyond Blunderdome' Mel Gibson stars as himself and asks Homer to co-produce his film after Homer gives it a bad review. The problem is, I don't think 'Mr Smith goes to Washington' should be a bloody action picture... 10/10

In 'Itchy and Scatchy: the Movie' Homer forbids Bart to see the new Itchy and Scratchy film after Bart fails to watch Maggie. 9/10

In '22 Short Films about Springfield' the episode is made up of bits of other episodes put together with clever links to each other. 10/10

In 'A Star is Burns' Springfield hosts a film festival with the help of critic Jay Sherman (Jon Lovitz). Homer is on the board of judges, and he has to ... Read More:

VHS : Radio Days [1986]
Rarely does a motion picture capture an era with such nostalgia and reverence, as Woody Allen's "Radio Days". Set in New York City as World War 2 breaks; "Radio Days" captures the mood of the times through the music, drama, news, sports - and even the commercials that entertained and informed listeners in the days when radio ruled the media roost. Seen through the eyes of a young Jewish boy and his extended family in working class Brooklyn, the movie is really a series of well crafted vignettes, based on fact mixed with fiction. Some are hilarious, some touching, but always entertaining and filled with the great "Swing" music of the era. As usual, Allen's ensemble of actors deliver terrific turns as they recreate those great old days. Mia Farrow, Diane Wiest, Julie ... Read More:
