VHS : Cape Fear [1992]
J. Lee Thompson's 1962 version of Cape Fear may not be a masterpiece, but in everyway it's a superior thriller to Martin Scorsese's horribly misjudged remake. More surprisingly, it's also much nastier even with the heavier censorship of the day - Robert Mitchum's treatment of Polly Bergen in the last reel is startlingly violent and disturbing even now and its still shocking to see an early 60s film that revolves around sex crimes. There's no doubt exactly what's on Mitchum's mind, whether he's eyeing up a pickup in a bar or breaking an egg in his fist and smearing the yolk over the mother's shoulders and neck: like a lazy reptile waiting to casually catch a fly with his tongue, he merely has to look at Gregory Peck's underage daughter to exude ... but ends up as a piece of crap.
Sorry, but this film is not good. It started out as a decent gangster movie and should have kept this path. There was enough potential here to make this Rodriguez' best film, but why did he have to bring in the vamps to make it a slayfest and ruin this? George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino were so great as the two Geckos brothers and the beginning scene was just awesome. What a pity.

VHS : Mixed Nuts [1994]
Theres a certain quality you expect from a film, When your hear the name Steve Martin, the same goes For Nora Ephron. However this film didn't live up to my expectations. Its not that this film isn't funny, It is, but it could be better. This was a film which saw Steve Martins Talents somewhat restricted. I love movies by the Epron Sisters (nora and Delia Wrote the screenplay, Nora Directed) so I thought I'd love this. But It was a film which I found above average.. It would have been worse at other times in the year but this is a nice, happy xmas movie. So.. If you can, watch it on TV, rent it. But think twice about buying it.. If you want Steve Martin I recommend Father Of the Bride ( A Classic), If you want a Nora Ephron film get You've Got Mail (A masterpiece!). ... Read More:

Old School is advertised as a comedy and it is funny for the 90 minutes it runs and always has plenty of action and lively dialogue going on.And the idea of a bunch of people in their late thirties forming a club at a university is fairly original. These are nice guys who never grew up and the world is a brighter place because they didn't and your day will be brighter if you watch this film.

Starsky and Hutch takes about 45 minutes to find its feet and become humorous and interesting. One episode of the 1970s tv programme is way more entertaining than this film but if you like spectacular stunts with cars the film is worth seeing for the last ten minutes or so.

VHS : The Unbearable Lightness Of Being [1987]
This is a Classic Film make no mistake about it. Yes, it is slow but it is meant to be.

Is it a faithful adaptation of the book? I would say yes considering the source material. The book contains whole sections of intellectual pondering regarding the internal struggle involved in passionate love. These passages are unfilmable.

What we have here is a very European film dripping with cold sexuality and emotional torture. The Actors, the Director and all involved in this production should feel very proud of what they have achieved.

The Direction is confident and fresh. The performances are faultless. Juliette Binoche is truly a remarkable actor. Her desperation is beautifully played. I have to say that this is one of the best displays of acting I think I ... Read More:
