VHS : Paint Your Wagon [1970]
I read on IMDB that 'Paint your Wagon' single handidly killed off the western and musical genres. Ignore sush tripe.

It's a long film, but in this day of long films with pointless side plots, this doesn't waste a minute. Filled with great tunes, funny (and clever!) jokes and superb performances I'd say this is a must. At little more than £5 in highstreet stores it's a bargain.

"Shermahorn, sit down, you haven't been rec-og-nised"
"But I'm Shermahorn"

This film features a special mission team in the thick of World War 2 before D-Day parachuted behind Nazi lines for a special destruction mission. The operation is fiction but there are similar covert missions during the war.The main strategy of the team is to deceive, shock and rapidly destroy the enemy. Similar tactics were also used by Nazis during the war in the European theatre. Nazi soldiers disguised as American soldiers tried to disrupt the logistics and supply lines. The film is shot with a wide range of stars sucj as Lee Marvin, Telly Salavas, John Cassevetes, Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Sutherland et al. When his buddy, Mal Reese, with his wife, Lynne, looking on, puts two bullets into Walker right after they've high-jacked a big haul on Alcatraz island, Walker gets mad...and then gets even. Walker somehow survives those gunshots and a year later he returns. For the next hour and a half, Walker (Lee Marvin) is going to say once if he says it ten times, "I want my money back." The Organization is not about to accommodate Walker, even if Walker's money is only a measly $93,000. That includes Reese, who now has Walker's wife and who has become one of the Organization's top men, all of whom look like business CEOs. While Walker relentlessly goes after his money and works his way up the corporate criminal ladder, he leaves a trail of corpses behind. Walker is shrewd, violent ... Read More:

You can't help but join in the songs, laugh at the content, all be it a little risque. A great way to see Clint's early singing and why he became mayor of a county similar to the one they build after 'no name city' is demolished, and why Lee Marvin is a hit. We love it.

9.The Big Red One [1980] starring: Lee Marvin, Mark Hamill, Robert Carradine, Bobby Di Cicco, Kelly Ward

This film is fantastic. It's not quite Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers, but I don't think it's about the same thing. Obviously it's about the second world war, but the way it goes about doing it is different. There are many powerful moments, especially the end one, and all the actors are brilliant, Mark Hammil being better than he was in Star Wars.
At first it seems a little disjointed and sketchy, but that's the way it was meant to be filmed, and when you get into it it really is one of the best war films ever. Seriously. You need to watch this.

VHS : Monte Walsh [1970]
This film has the Lee Marvin hallmarks of comedy in parts, it also has action and sadness. It,s about the old west coming to an end and how the cowboys are finding it hard to get work in the jobs that only they can do, being so desperate, they would resort to anything, Monte (Lee Marvin) loses his best friend in a shop hold up and his girl dies and eventually he is also out of work. The film has it,s lighter side such as when Monte rides a mustang that no one could break, it goes through shops and all but destoys the town trying to buck him off, and the very smelly cook who gets put in the trough by all the men for a wash, totally brilliant and i,ve watched it again and again.
