VHS : Quo Vadis [1952]
I love it. From all the epics made in Hollywood it has the best script. I don't know another one that makes me laugh. This one truly has a good sense of humor and sarcasm. Not to forget the story about love, hate, courage - simply everything that makes a good movie. The actors are great - no one will forget Peter Ustinov's performance, and Robert Taylor - here he is not only as handsome as a man can be, his acting is also fine with a good sense of irony, great professionalism, topped by a very charming appearance.

VHS : Moby Dick [1956]
A wonderfully realised cine-tale of Herman Melville's timeless book of revenge and ambition. On the surface this is a marvellous tale of adventure upon the high seas. An insight into the 19th-century trade of whaling in which the dangerous hunt, if successful, may not only satisfy the need for exhilaration, where untested men and boys would arrive home fully grown through their adventures, but also where a high price may be had for the precious whale oil acquired from their victims.

There is, however, another side to this tale. The book Moby-Dick (or Moby Dick) warns of the price of obsession and the single-mindedness of pursuing a goal whose only purpose is to recklessly face and destroy the monster within at all costs. The story ... Read More:

VHS : 55 Days At Peking [1963]
This is one of my all time favourite Charlton Heston film and depicts a rare episode of International co-operation before the days of the UN, NATO, etc. The film is set in the 1900 "Boxer" Rebellion in China and shows the seige of the International embassies and legations in Peking by a huge force of Chinese Boxer forces and later the Chinese Armies. The small embassy guards from the USA, Britain, France, Italy, Japan, Germany, Austria and Russia (along with Chinese volunteers) are forced to co-operate and pool resources in order to survive and hold out. Which they do for 55 days!

This epic film has some great battle scenes in the days before CGI they built a huge set and got thousands of extras, and great performance from screen legends like ... Read More:

VHS : Elizabeth I
I caught this and King Henry V111 six wives on ABC in 2004 and I was pleased to able to find the DVD of this wonderful production.
David Starkey does a excellent job as always in bring this wonderful Queen of England in the 16th Century to life.
You get to see and hear the Straggles that Elizabeth went through in order to gain the crown.
The actors used in the documentary all do the production justice.
I would Recommend this DVD to anyone who loves history or/and want to learn more about Tutor England.
The DVD itself is of a high Quality. Clear sharp pictures and sound. Well worth the price.

VHS : Frightmare [1974]
An elder couple, Mr. and Mrs. Yates are freed after fifteen years in an asylum. The man covers up for his wife who is a murderer and a cannibal... This movie was perhaps an inspiration source for "Driller Killer". This version is cut by 3 minutes. A lot of the horrifying scenes have been removed and so this film isn't as frightning as it was before. It's a pity. We can only hope on an UNCUT re-release in the future.

Extraordinary story as to how Eric Williams, Oliver Philpott and partner escaped from Stalag Luft 3.
Very ingenious, much more so than The Great Escape and without the histrionics, the film is a straight forward retelling of the story of the Escape done in a very British, underplayed style.
It is not in colour and not a charismatic as The great Escape but it is completely true and quite staggering in it's bravado.
A best selling book in the U.K. eric williams went on to write others, specifically of canal cruising in the Europe of the fifties.

VHS : The Way Ahead [1944]
Great film. One can only imagine the frame of mind of those originally watching it during the war. Brilliantly avoids the trap of portraying characters as heroes, they're just normal flawed fellows... who you don't necessarily like, until they're the tight knit fighting unit we see at the end. Isn't propaganda clever?
David Niven is fantastic - a role model for every Englishman.
The rest of the cast are exceptional too. The last shots, soldiers advancing bravely through the smoke, was surely lifted for the opening credits of Dad's Army years later - and both featured the brilliant John Laurie.

10.Tunisian Victory - From The Invasion Of North Africa To The Fall Of Tunis [1943] starring: Leo Genn, Harold Alexander, Kenneth Anderson, Omar N. Bradley, Alan Brooke
directed by: Frank Capra, Hugh Stewart, John Huston
