VHS : Priest [1994]
this was my first gay film and managed to stay on top of my favorites.

The lead actor did a terrific job portraying a priest who is torn between his "duties" and homosexuality.

hey, at least his lover was an adult unlike most of the highly publicized real life scandals with children.

VHS : The Wings Of The Dove [1998]
Based on the novel by Henry James, `The Wings of the Dove' is a beautiful film both in terms of locations, story and acting.
Helena Bonham Carter plays Kate Croy, who after being taking on as a ward by her Aunt Maude, is forced to meet illicitly with her lower class lover Merton Densher (played by Linus Roache). When Kate discovers that her new friend Mille (played by Alison Elliot), a wealthy American heiress is terminally ill, she sets about enticing Merton to seduce Millie in order for Kate and Merton to be able to marry through the acquisition of her inheritance.
The cinematography of the film is simply stunning, especially the night scenes in Venice, the costumes too are beautifully made and in my opinion Helena Bonham Carter has never ... Read More:

All performances in this film are remarkable, but especially Linus Roache stands out with a superb performance, as the man with a conscience, who made it possible for Winston Churchill to expose Chamberlains aid to Nazi Germany.

VHS : Beyond Borders (Sell Through) [2003]
No expense seems to have been spared to film around the world in exotic - if faux - locations (Namibia for Ethiopia, Thailand for Cambodia, Canada - less exotically - for the Caucasas and - totally implausibly - for the UK) which were then brilliantly enhanced by computer technology. The director claims that he aspired to making a film like 'Doctor Zhivago' - a love story set against a wider panorama of spectacular world events. This film fails miserably on both counts.
The supposed attraction between the two individually attractive stars totally fails to gel. Enough said about the love story.
As a portrayal of humanitarian work, the film was a horrible embarrassment to the agencies directly named or implied. It is cringingly inaccurate about their work ... Read More:

VHS : Hart's War [2002]
I really enjoyed this film, at first this is a war film, soon after we are transported to a POW camp during world war II, then with the addition of a couple of black US officers this turns into a racial film (only a small part of the film in some ways, but it plays a major role too), then into a courtroom drama, but all is not as it appears to be, there are some good twists and turns from hereon out.

I've read that a fellow reviewer found the courtroom part of this film a bit strung out, there is a very good reason why this is the case, I can't say why as this is THE major twist/surprise in the film.

Good turns from Bruce Willis, Marcel Lures and Terrence Howard, but the star of the film has to be Colin Farrell who puts in a fine performance, this film has a good atmosphere ... Read More:

VHS : Batman Begins [2005]
This Batman film just shows that the who idea still works. Quite frankly, after the Michael Keaton/Val Kilmer/George Clooney efforts I was beginning to have my doubts.

Sure, there are one or two places where this film may be a bit slow, but on the whole I think that even those patches serve the purpose of explaining how Batman became Batman ... i.e. why the Bat bit. As always the gadgets are brilliant, the one liners excellently delivered and Batman's escapes truly unbelievable - in other words a proper Batman film!

Christian Bale is excellent as Batman, and Michael Caine just about perfect in the role as Alfred the butler - in fact, when I win the lottery and have to hire my own butler Michael Caine will be top of my list of candidates!!

In short this is a very good film. ... Read More:
