VHS : Pinocchio : Special Edition [1940]
now it may be a classic, but i'm afraid i was really disappointed with this film. my 5 yr old was frankly bored watching this, it was very slow to get moving. the story line was not what i was expecting. the jimmney cricket / conscience was to abstract for him to understand in the way it was presented. and there was a terrible bit later on with pinnochio getting drunk and smoking cigars. that bit raised a few tricky questions.

what i had expected the main story line to be - pinnochio's nose growing long when he lied, occured only once for about 20 seconds in the middle of the film and never again.

we will not be watching this one again
sadly not enjoyable or educational

VHS : Bambi [Disney 1942]
Designed in the Disney hay-day of great movies like "Fantasia" and "Song of the South" this shows what animation and great music was and could be now with a little effort.

The story which is a little easer to take than the book chronicles the life of a young prince "Bambi" his friends and how he grew and matured. He passes through many rights of passage and takes his place in the forest society.

The down side of the story is the demise of Bambi's mother which though innovative for the time traumatized many children. To this day you hear it is a classic but I can not bring my self to watch it. How ever this presentation is more of a symphony based on the characters from the story in the Disney tradition.

Many of the uncredited voices ... Read More:

VHS : So Dear To My Heart (1948) (Disney)
Jerry is a boy growing up on a farm back in the times of "Grundy's General Store" and everyone getting excited when the train comes through town. One calm night, the now-born baby lambs came into the world. They were all healthy little things, but one had black wool instead of white. Jerry, seeing this pathetic little thing, had some sort of connection with it, and loved it from the start. However, Granny didn't aprove of this situation, for she knew that it wouldn't earn it's keep, and it would eventually become a pet. But Jerry was persistant, and he won. After getting some advice from the wise old owl, Danny, (that's what Jerry named the lamb), progressed into a fine sheep, who often got into mischief. Granny was stubborn about selling Danny, but... but... well, maybe you should see ... Read More:
