I'm fascinated by this film which I caught at the cinema back in the day. Having thoroughly enjoyed it's joie de vivre I recommended it to a Jewish GP friend who having seen it spat vitriol about it back in my face. It just seems to be one of those films that splits the audience down the middle and for no reason that I can clearly understand. Some reviewers claim that only Jews would find it funny but I'm not Jewish and the response of said GP disproves that one. I simply found it full of hilarious lines and situations, from the piling up of furniture in the bathroom to prevent an unpreventable entrance by the farmer and wife ( who's reactions to finding Leon in the bath are just perfectly understated) ... Elegantly, gorgeous Mark Frankel stars as Daniel, a body language expert, who charms his way out of trouble and through life in general. Right until he meets the ultimate challenge - a woman (played by Amanda Pays) who wont give him the time of day. Possibly because she has the ability to read his mind... Watch, laugh and learn as these two people stumble through the hazards of courtship, laughing and fighting and doing all the things new lovers do. This is a truly sweet and heartwarming love story. Often hilarious in its novelty and at times thought provoking in the way it emphasizes human relationships. Mark Frankel especially is superb. There is not really anything that could be added to the previous reviews - this film was part of my (German)PC Magazine subsrciption in 2005. Eversince, I have been watching this film time and again and have also bought the UK Region 2 version which has English and French soound and what should I say, my British partner fell in love with this film just in the same way as I had been. Absolutely a great film that: it has lot's of good humane humour, a heartwarming story masterly set alive by Jean Reno, Mercedes Ruehl and all otehr roles played wonderfully. Set in a wonderful Italian countryside this film is going deeper than any Hollywood plastic romance films ever managed to do.
